To The Window, To The Wall

Wednesday 14th May

Written by Alys Penfold (she/her)

Tonight, five human GoodGymers and one canine GoodGymer took on not one, not two, but three tasks!

We were back at Knaphill Community Fridge, which seems to always bless us with a beautiful evening for our task. โ˜€๏ธ

Wayne and Alys took on the task of removing a rotting trellis and replacing it with a new one. Well actuallyโ€ฆWayne did all the drilling, and Alys just held the screws! Wayne also got his gloves on to clear out toys and balls that children from the nursery had poked through the gaps. No doubt it wonโ€™t take long for more to gather thereโ€ฆ

Meanwhile, Julie, Nadia and Agathe gave the community fridge a good โ€˜ol Spring clean, cleaning it from ceiling to floor (and window to wall).

A few of us also jumped in to replace one of the sides of the gazebo that has got a bit tattered over time. Quinn made sure to supervise this step!

We were kindly rewarded with a treat from Gailโ€™s before heading home. ๐Ÿ˜€

It was great to have Agathe back after her trip to France. We missed Katie this week, who took a fleeting trip to Italy, Anne who is in France ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท and weโ€™ll be missing Nadia for the next few weeks whilst sheโ€™s in Japan ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต- have an amazing time! ๐ŸŽŒ

On Sunday, there is not one, not two, but three tasks as well - Junior parkrun, Brookwood trains and wildflower sowing on Millmoor Common. Join us for one?

knaphill Community Fridge

On this beautiful evening 5 GG members met at the community fridge to carry out painting & gardening tasks. โ˜€๏ธ

Wayne, Katie, Kirsty, Julie, & Nadia met at Knaphill community fridge. The fridge has been closed for a few weeks while Jules was on holiday.

Jules had everything ready for us. Paint, brushes, power tools, & gloves. We split up into two groups. Wayne & Katie started the prep work to paint the inner doors of the kitchen. Kirsty, Julie, & Nadia started weeding and tidying up the bedding plant. We were all thinking about Anne and how well she did in the San Francisco marathon and how we cant wait to see her hear all about it and see her shiny medal ๐Ÿ…

Jules was so grateful for the amount of Woking GG have done for the community fridge over the last month,

In no time we had finished and we also all got a lovely loaf of sourdough bread. ๐Ÿž

Next Wednesday we are at the RSPCA tackling the brambles Anne will also be back ๐Ÿ˜€

Knaphill Community Fridge

This evening 5 GG members headed to the community fridge to carry out some cleaning & painting.

Big shout out to Kirsty who's birthday was yesterday ๐ŸŽ‰

We were back at the community fridge this evening to finish off what we had started the previous week. Wayne, Kirsty, Anne, Katie, & Alys met Jules at the fridge where she gave us our tasks.

Anne, Katie, & Alys started with cleaning & wiping down the windows of the gazebo while Wayne & Kirsty started to do the prep work fir the community fridge before painting began by giving the front a dust down and removing all signage. Once it was clean the painting began. Alys joined Wayne while Kirsty & Anne moved on to the front of the church to wipe down the signs. Katie had finished on the gazebo & joined the painting team in no time the community fridge shed looked brand new.

While we were cleaning up and putting away the tools Jules kindly offered us pastries & breads from Gails bakery who had made a delivery ๐Ÿ˜‹.

With our breads in hand we headed off the pub to have a drink to celebrate Kirsty birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ while watching the footy โšฝ๏ธ.

Alys was filling us all in on her wedding plans, looks like its going to be a grand event ๐Ÿ˜€.

We finished our drinks said our goodbyes & headed home.

This Sunday Woking Junior Park would love volunteers to carry out various roles if anyone is available ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

Knaphill Community Fridge

This evening 8 GG members met up at the Knaphill Community Fridge to carry out a big clean.

Wayne, Anne, Adam, Katie, Kirsty, Lauren, Julie, & Nadia met the Church where we then met Jules who had many tasks for us to carry out.

We split up in two teams. Anne, Katie, & Nadia were tasked with wiping down the inside of the marquee and once completed put up some bunting around the three sides, there was plenty of buckets of water and cleaning products and the girls got stuck in straight away ๐Ÿงฝ.

Wayne & Adam had the responsibility of moving the fridge and freezer getting right behind and giving the floor area a good sweep and mop. In order to do this a lot of moving around was required ๐Ÿ’ช.

Julie & Kirsty who currently only has the use of one arm were removing an old filing cabinet and it contents and replacing it with a new one, they were also doing some weeding and generally helping everyone.

While busy working talk started about the Surrey half marathon. Looks like Woking GG will be represted well this year with Wayne, Anne, & Adam doing the half, while Katie, Kirsty, Nadia, & Lauren possibly doing the 5K ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ, Hopefully our currently injured members will be fit and ready to go by then ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Within the hour we had finished Jules was very impressed with the quality of the teams work. We are back at the fridge in two weeks time to do a little painting.

We helped Jules clear everything away said our goodbyes and headed to the restaurant for something to eat..๐Ÿ˜‹.

Two organisations for one

Last night we had two tasks to complete, one was for Holy Trinty Pre school and the other for Knaphill Community Fridge.

Just the four ladies tonight but we split into two team. With Alys and Rosie taking on the gardening tasks at the pre school and myself and Julie taking on the cleaning task at Knaphill community fridge. Luckily they are next door to each other!

Alys and Rosie had to the jobs of tackling the herb garden and edging of the path, there was a promise of jet washing but it was a tad but dark for that. Whilst Julie and I gave the cabin a deep clean, moving all the fridges and cleaning behind and clearing the cob webs.

We had to two lovely bonus's tonight... firstly we got to meet Quinn, Alys's new lovely little dog, I think he enjoyed himself running around the garden. And secondly there was a delivery from Gail's bakery to the Community Fridge so we all went away with a little sweet treat! YUM!!

Next week

We will be meeting at Brookwood farm car park. The litter around the park is terrible so we will aim to complete 30 mins of litter picking before heading off for a run down the canal and back along the heath to the car park.

To Bee or not to bee

Wednesday 13th September 2023

No tree was safe last night

Especially when James has a sharp saw in his hand.

Last night we headed to the Knaphill Community fridge. Next door to the community fridge is Holy Trinity Pre school. We were greeted by Jules and volunteer and gardener Richard. The task involved clearing trees in the pre school garden.

One tree was causing the pre school some 'Bee' issues as being a wonderful pollinator for the bees, it was also dangerous for the pre schoolers and had to be coned off due to the threat of a Bee to sting to a child.

We had the job of also bringing down the height of the trees along the path - an impressive birds nest was discovered. Adam's height came in handy for this job!

We also welcomed back Anne who was back to her group runs after being in France - It was lovely having you back! Rosie also brought her boyfriend along to give GoodGym a go. Well done to those who either ran or cycled to the task.

Good luck to James running a 20 miler this weekend.

Next week - We are at woodham parish church - meeting at WWF and running down the canal - this is roughly 2km to the task.
