Tonight we were tasked with clearing old garden waste that couldn't be utilized as compost and rescuing the old wormery. It was great to welcome Lucy for their first task and our visitors from Portsmouth GoodGym. Many hands got to work filling bin bags and wheelbarrows with the waste to transport it through the farm and out to the waste collection point. It took a very particular skill set to not roll the full barrels out of the wheelbarrows on route! The farm has a brand new accessible path that has been laid and the route is now looking a lot smarter thanks to our efforts. We finished the session with some cake to celebrate my birthday and the approach of the end of the January challenge.

We had a great turnout for our first session of the year at Rose Road including a special guest all the way from London, Ivo, the founder of GoodGym. We were tasked with sorting headbands which will be sold by the fundraising team at festivals during the summer. Many hands were needed as there were literally hundreds of every colour you could imagine and style. Yes crab is a style! In addition to the headbands we also had some creative hands working on a selfie frame of roses. We all agree our glue gunners did a fabulous job. A great indoor task for a chilly winters evening. We look forward to seeing what task Rose Road finds for us on our next visit!

We held a small collection for the food bank at Lordshill church this evening - filling a bag of biscuits, teabags and other tinned goods to provide help for those who may need it.

It was our first Monday evening task of 2025 and we got off to a bang being back at Aldemoor Community Farm with Richard.
Richard always has something new and interesting for us to try and tonight was no different. We were tasked with helping sift and break up compost which was ready to be sorted and bagged to help compost this years plants.
Chris was head of the production line filling all the trays with compost to be sorted. We then had to work through and breakup the compost sorting weeds and wood and BONES(!) into one tray, plastic into another and stones into another.
Once the consistency was about right we then had to use the large sieve machine which was very satisfying! Leszek and Serena expertly handled removing the sieve so we could then start placing the compost into bags.
It was a fun, therapeutic session and we created five bags of compost which we are told Pam the community outreach lady will be very grateful for!
We look forward to returning and helping Richars again soon

Back to the farm for more edging duties this evening. The majority of the team got stuck in edging whilst Helen and I became brushers - brushing away all the debris from the edgers!
We did such a good job we moved swiftly on to the front of the farm ☺
