A picky lunch

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Amy L GoodGym (she/her)

Well done to Tessa, Kadriye and Alison, who joined me to tidy up Boyn Grove Park and nearby streets. The park and A4 offered rich pickings. We received thanks and cheers from grateful motorists and pedestrians, and also Georgeta, who was passing on her bike on her way to a GoodGym mission.

I also had a lovely chat with children at All Saints School, who were also doing some lunchtime litter picking.

Kudos to Viv and Angela, who targeted Furze Platt, and to Christine, who cleaned up around Castle Hill. Also to Sol, Matt, Diya and Kanika, who all blitzed streets near work or home.

We all got some steps in and got a good workout lugging those bags around. Go team!

From stag beetles to litter picking

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

10 GoodGymmers "came together" outside the Braywick Nature Centre on a much warmer evening that we've been having of late to attempt to build stag beetle habitats. Unfortunately, upon trying to locate the equipment we realised that our task owner may have accidentally forgotten we were coming and hence had to think of a plan B(eetle). Perhaps "Yesterday" I should have sent a reminder to say "Don't let me down". Amy and I even tried calling for "Help!", but alas, in the end we just had to "Let it be".

Thankfully our glorious leader Amy had a colony of litter pickers in the boot of her car (sadly, not a VW Beetle!) so we set to work with the intention of having a social walk around the parkrun loop, a very "long and winding road", whilst clearing up any litter we saw en route.

We stag-gered around together, chatted and cleaned up a few bags of rubbish. Great job team! Hopefully we can return another evening to give the beetles a "little help from their friends" so they can "twist and shout" in their new home!

We also congratulated Tony on his 50th good deed this evening! Well done Tony!

All a-board!

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Amy L GoodGym (she/her)

This GoodGym session was all about spreading the word about GoodGym. Volunteers collected leaflets and then ran, walked and cycled to local venues where leaflets could be displayed (with permission), for example on on notice boards.

Georgeta went to the train station and Lady Elizabeth House in Maidenhead and the Community Centre in Cox Green.

Tessa put leaflets on display at the Costas in Shifford Crescent and Cookham, the Cookham Library and Cookham Dean Village Hall.

Sheila targeted Tesco Express on the Bath Road and the Sainsurys Local in Wootton Way.

Angela spread the word at Linden Ave GP surgery and St Marks Hospital.

I displayed leaflets at Woodlands Park Community Centre and shared them in Pilates classes.

Hope these leaflets help drum up some more GoodGymers!

Not much litter in the park? What rubbish!

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Amy L GoodGym (she/her)

Three cheers to all the GoodGymers who got out and used their energy to tidy up our streets and parks.

A big welcome to first-timers Dave and Christine, who joined me at Kidwells Park along with Sheila and Tessa. I confidently said there wouldn't be masses of litter in the park. What rubbish!

Sol picked up 4 bucket-fulls of litter near her workplace.

Diya and Kanika reported '2 big bags of frozen litter picked up by frozen people'.

Georgeta targeted the A404 underpass in Cox Green and filled up 2 bags - landfill waste in one and recyclables in the other.

Viv and Angela also litter picked locally, along with honorary canine GoodGym member Flora.

Rubbish adventures in the snow!

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Angela Shaw

The community allotment task was cancellled so seven intrepid good gymers and a dog (Flora) set off in the sleet and snow to pick up rubbish. They searched gutters, delved high and low in hedges and scanned the green spaces to fill up five bags before returning to the meeting place. They celebrated with delicious marble chocolate cake baked by Jess before setting off for home!
