Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Diya Singh (she/her)
12 GoodGymers met on a warm, sunny evening to continue bashing the invasive Balsams so they don't overwhelm the biodiversity of the riverbanks and neighbouring farmlands.
We welcomed Claire who's restarting her GG adventures in Maidenhead having done plenty of good work in Islington. Along with Claire, we had another new face - young Phoebe, a first timer who's in town for her Uni break.
Jess, currently undergoing the Fitness Leader training, took over to lead an active travel session. After a security briefing which included crossing the road safely, she led us down the Thames path to the bashing arena. Before entereing the woods, a quick pit stop was needed for everyone to put on protective layers against the prickly nettles.
Here, Jess cautioned us about safely navigating the broken fence, the uprooted tree, the other uprooted tree with the barbed wire and the low hanging trees (and the nettles!). Forewarned and overdressed, we proceeded to the clearing to resume the balsam bashing.
Time flew by as we chatted, uprooted, sweated, yelped at being pricked and had a grand old time. On the hour, we headed back and ended the evening with some stretches in the light of the setting sun.
Thanks to Georgeta for the lovely photos and Kanika, for being the Back Marker.

Twelve hardy Goodgymmers stepped up to dig up some hard soil to help with ground prep for new flower beds to be put in.
We welcomed two new and travelling Goodgym members, Charlotte and Alice who came down from Amersham.
It was also a special task because we celebrated Louise's 50 good deeds with cake and macaroons kindly brought over by Amy.
The going was tough on the dry hard soil but nothing is ever too tough for this group! Our task owner was very pleased with all the prep work we'd managed.
Hard work done, cake eaten, chatting finished, we all dispersed from another fantastic GG Wednesday mission!

5 Goodgymers joined taskowner Karen and another volunteer at Spital Cemetery for the first workparty of the year And we couldn't have picked a more beautiful day! Sheila, Christina, Tessa and Mary worked on revealing a gravestone from the brambles that were engulfing it. Eventually we were able to read the lettering- the headstone commemorated Helen Poraz, who died at the age of sixteen in 1887 and we think hailed from Courtachy in Scotland. Meanwhile Sue and Maggie worked in the woodland area, clearing the paths and they created a huge deadwood pile using several trunks and large branches, supplemented with smaller branches. This was partly buried with some clods of earth shoveled by Tessa, which will be great for wildlife. They also discovered 2 new graves which had been completely hidden A productive and satisfying morning's work

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Slough runner
4 Goodgymers met with a small group of Friends of Ray Mill Island (including four mini Friends) for some family friendly Island TLC.
The main job of the day was to widen the main path running in front of the playground and cafe. This involved digging away the earth at the edge of the path and transferring it by wheelbarrow to the compost area. At the compost area a couple of volunteers sifted through the soil to remove roots. The mini friends enjoyed looking for the worms and transporting them in the wheel barrow to a safer place.
The path team then moved some logs and branches to mark out the new edge.
There were lots of squirrels taking an interest in our work with one particularly curious squirrel who befriended Jen and one of the mini friends.
