Sheffield Report written by Celine (she/her or they/them)
It was an enthusiastic crew of GoodGymers who braved the Sheffield drizzle to join new task leaders Dave and Chris from Sunnybank community centre to kickstart the community garden. the garden had been unkept for a good few years and the community is keen to develop it into a beautiful resource.
Local residents also joined us and within no time Dave and Chris had us getting into the wilderness with spades, forks, loppers, shears and...spoons. * we cleared the border of one of the plant beds * we dug out pesky sycamore seedlings * we cleaned the paved area of its moss and weeds * we cut back the big bush by the gate to its border * we cut back what used to be a lawn and had long overgrown.
After 45 minutes, the paved area looked good enough to sit on and picnic, the gate had been freed up of its invasive bush and the plant bed had been edged around.
There is still plenty to sink our teeth into before this jungle turns into an oasis and we're keen to come back!

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton
We were rocking and rolling tonight on the way to meet the greatest rock star of all Parky Rob at Heeley People's Park for tonights task.
Def Leopard were in town and playing at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane stadium. Our Motley Crew ran past the aging rocker fans and the vibrating stadium to meet up with our other fellow GG'ers for the evenings task which was shifting wood chip up to the playground and turning the old wood chip and mixing in the new.
We split into 2 teams, one fetching and carrying and the other turning over and spreading.
With 4, yes 4 new runners this week it was great to get to know some new faces. Lets welcome:
There were some lovely scents coming from the steaming pile of wood chip (genuinely) which made the filling of the GG red buckets even more satisfying.
Once we were done, the playgrounds were looking tip top with the surfacing looking freshly turned and refreshed and Parky Rob was looking very chipper with our efforts.
Once tools had been collected Rob told us all about the upcoming summer events and how our work was contributing to them being able to happen in the park and in turn support the ongoing upkeep and development of the spaces.
Until next time, happy running :)
