A trio of GoodGym's angels (Christine, Pauline & Gabrielle) donned the Liver Wings for a quick litter pick around the Baltic Triangle.
We met up on Saturday afternoon amed with litter pickers, bags and ever useful bin bag hoops (borrowed from Lister Steps Community Centre) to tackle the litter on Jamaica Street. Although at first glance, the main street there doesn't seem to be a lot of rubbish, the pavements were actually littered with endless cigarette butts. So we began by dexteriously tackling the butts with our trusty pickers.
As we made our way down Jamaica Street, we spotted loads of rubbish in and around the makeshift skate park. Pauline spoke to a skater there who told her that the rubbish was especially bad after Friday and Saturday nights, as people congregate and drink there on nights out. Inside the skate park we filled our bags with bottles, cans and food wrappers which made for a nice change from the endless cigarette butts.
Although we only made a small dent in the ongoing litter problem in the Baltic area, we did encounter a lot of tourists and visitors who hopefully will think twice before dropping their rubbish.

Studies show that people who live in clean areas with green open spaces have better mental and physical health than those who live in areas with a litter problem.

Liverpool Report written by Char Binns
Well done to the fab runners who gave up some of their weekend to tackle Liverpool's litter problem.
In 2.5 hours, 26 sacks of litter were collected by this small but hard working team. Yes that's 26 sacks of rubbish. In case you're wondering, the main culprits were:
Cigarette butts (hey butthead, fags are litter too!)
Chocolate bar wrappers
Bottles and cans - often only half drunk
Dog poo picked up into a black bag, but then left behind as litter (whhhhyyyyyyyy????!)
Although we only covered a small amount of ground, we made a huge difference and hopefully now the streets are cleaner, people will think twice about littering.
Thanks also to Squash Nutrition who gave us a free drink to reward our efforts.
