Welcome to the annual transformation from Night Shelter to B&B. The tasks included painting, cleaning, shifting things and eating left over food.
The cleaning was mainly of the bathrooms and what an amazing job was done! Painting was continuing the excellent job done on Thursday with roller and brush. Shifting? Well how do you fancy moving a tumble dryer? You do? Excellent! Finally the eating. All I can say is 😋 Well done everyone. I’ve eaten my ice cream I got on the way home so this is the end of the report!
Until next time…

A rare Thursday evening task for Janka, Darren and Melanie to kick-start the Guest House regeneration to B&B status.
In a fairly small room, barely any paint was transferred from tub to trainer to floor as most was definitely on the walls, ready for a second coat on Saturday when the Big Clean happens.

Yeah that title doesn’t make much sense, but anyway…
Today we were finishing off the task we started last time we were here. Cutting ivy and other undergrowth away from the fence (which was put there in the 1930s for fans of facts - the fence not the ivy) so that it can be repaired.
After an hour ish of enthusiastic snipping we downed tools and had some tea, coffee and biscuits before heading on our way. A great task where you can really see the difference afterwards (though maybe not from my photos).
Until next time…

Those brambles are horrors!
Hi everyone reading this. I'll keep this brief as its lovely and sunny outisde today. Almost feels like spring!
Todays task was three-fold. The first was continuing the chopping up on the slope we started last time. Once again we were supervised by the fox who by now we count as a part of the group (just needs the tshirt). The second task was to give the Moon Temple a haircut to prevent nefarious activity. Lastly a clear of the undergrowth overhanging the pavement. Phew.
What a lovely morning to be outside. The customary tea, biscuit and chat at the end and we said adieu.
Until next time...

Because of the length of this work party, a tag-team was the best approach! I arrived st Hillfields Community Centre at 11 am to be met by Sarah with a lovely cuppa! A quick tour identified the different painting tasks to do. Sarah's priority was the kitchen area which had had the old cupboards removed and been cleaned. I got to work with the masking tape so that by the time Nicky (another of Sarah's team of volunteers) arrived we were ready to paint! We continued until 1.30 when it was lunch/cuppa and choccy finger time! Janka arrived and donning the overalls she took up the roller to continue the painting. After a quick interview for a community film project, (I wasn't allowed to mention names, but hopefully the camera caught my iconic top!) it was time for me to run home, leaving Janka to continue the battle against the previously green painted walls.
Sarah has recently taken over responsibility for the centre and there's lots to do so I expect Goodgym will be called on again to help. A great task, really helping the community, and always nice snacks! Before photos as it'll need at least 2 coats!
