We've come sofa and we’ve stacked so high

Bristol Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)

Take That Emmaus reorganisation!

A huge number of Bristol GoodGymmers took to the task of moving the big furniture to the ground floor of the shop which was already dull of the bric-a-brac that was going upstairs in the shop which was already full of the furniture going to the downstairs of the shop - a full-on Tetris challenge to create some space to start the manoeuvres.

The smaller items started being carried upstairs whilst the lift was used for the bigger items, although the lift seemed slower than lugging things up or down the stairs so it wasn't long before some much chunkier furniture was being carefully manhandled around the bannisters.

Fortunately, there was also a lot of chat to catch up on with GoodGymmers who'd not seen each other for a while making good use of the "lift waiting" time, springing into action like coiled springs when the ding of the lift warned that the door was soon to open with mystery objects and GoodGymmers inside.

The temperature increased with each lift-load being carefully tessellated into gaps to keep some floor space clear and our 50-minutes was soon up with a lot already moved (and a task for the Emmaus team tomorrow to find a lay-out that works for them).

We made sure two of the sofas were accessible for our end-of-task photo before heading off with many joining GoodGym Eats at Crispy Dosa, moving even more furniture around to have a big enough table for our lovely group.

From shifting sofas to Crispy Dosas - the crispiest dosas on Earth!

Sick of sycamores

Bristol Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)

Much weeding and watering awaited GoodGym Bristol in Brunswick Cemetery on a very warm evening so everyone was in the walking group.

Sycamores, bindweed and a creeping (not creepy) weed i-should -learn-the-name-of were hoiked out left, right and centre from the beds, paths and anywhere else they were spotted.

The plants that has been, um, planted the day before were also given a healthy dowsing sue to the very warm (hot?) weather so hopefully they can start covering the trellis in lovely greenness.

The time flee by and we were soon saying goodbye to Di and Jo, although only until Monday which is another bank holiday so time for another visit and bank holiday coffee/lunch to keep on chatting.

Jeepers Sleepers

Bristol Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)

Urgent wild garlic protection awaited GoodGym Bristol this week with a maior operation planned to stoo the Council accidentally mowing the wild garlic before it could seed and spread.

Sleepers, that had made the raised beds before the big re-build (and accompanying big compost shift), were being moved from one edge of the park to the other with well-laden wheelbarrows and hefty shifting of the wood and a careful plan (make it up as you go along) to create a wall between the cutting grads and non-cutting garlic. Oh, and deadheading the daffodils in the tyre stacks where we'd been called on for emergency bulb-planting so theres space for the to grow and daffodils to prepare for next Spring.

Finishing off with lemon balm and something else tea and homemade nettle and dandelion cake (all foraged from the park and GoodGym were away again, more chat at Workout and Vaguely Northern Darren using his amazing video and audio skills to record the scene for all time.
