Pee? Ah no, I've got a GoodGym run to the Portico!

Lambeth Report written by Katie Welford

Let me tell you this run was flipping sweaty! Not content with being all rainy, the weather decided to turn the world into a humid sweatbox just in time for our Tuesday evening run.

Some of our regulars are still recovering from their awesome efforts at the Paris marathon, so a smaller but indeed perfectly formed group of 21 covered two tasks with aplomb. James B led a group 1.5km to the Remakery. This brilliant space has a workshop and teaches people how to recycle unloved materials and turn them into things of wonder and beauty again. Nice!

They had some moving of objects to do as part of a Spring clean, including a flipping PIANO! Top work team.

The rest of us headed on the 4km uphill journey to West Norwood and the Portico Gallery. The courtyard area outside needed tidying up. In particular, a massive pile of ash and bricks had to be pulled apart after 'too many hippies had started fires there'.

It's the hippies! Said John.

After putting all the bricks to one side so they can be saved for something else, all of the ash was scraped up and put in sacks ready to be taken away. We also moved some large metal structures from here to there and put some big bags full of stones onto a trolley (these act as weights for the gazebos used in the West Norwood Feast!).

The downhill run home was a bit easier but it was still very sticky and we were all glad to go and have a nice shower at the end. Not together though.

One, two, three, four, tell me what this table's for

Lambeth Report written by Katie Welford

This week we were heading to the brilliant Portico Gallery to help sort some tables out that are used for the West Norwood Feast.

There were 37 people, which is an impressive turn out for a solid 8km round trip. After a nice warm up we headed off up the hills to the Portico. On arrival, there were some issues with the outdoor lights but those of us with headtorches got them on and we were able to get to work.

The tables needed to be graded on a scale of 1-4 from Good to BAD. The BAD ones needed fixing by John ahead of the first Feast in a few weeks time. Ruth, Vix and Lucy were the X Factor Table Judges and the rest of the runners worked in pairs to take their table for judgement before adding it to the correct pile. It was a beautiful circle of table judging excellence and in no time everything had been grouped and was ready to be put back on the metal crates ready for fixing or not.

A slightly more downhill run back to base was followed by stretches and a trip to the pub for our monthly social visit. Nice!

Thanks to Tom Hunter for the inspiration behind the title and this jazzy number by Feist.

Don't pancake! GoodGym Love Running!

Lambeth Report written by Katie Welford

'Twas the night before Valentine's and also Pancake Day. With such reason to celebrate it was amazing that anyone turned up at all. But turn up they did! We welcomed new Portsmouth trainer Katie and split into two groups.

Group 1 headed off on a mega long run to help Streatham Youth and Community Trust. Their youth centre needed a good old spring clean and so 17 sweaty individuals set about it with aplomb. There was light bulb changing, window cleaning and throwing away of pictures drawn by young people - along with their dreams. At an 11km round trip, they all earned their Love Running badge on Strava in one fell swoop!

Group 2 stuck a little closer to home, heading 2.5km down to Holland town estate to cut back some spiky roses and weed some stubborn weeds. Once back at Papa's, we did a bit more sorting of the broken toys from the good ones and then chopped back some twigs sprouting from a big tree. Portsmouth Katie led a nice fitness session and then we all did some stretches and retreated to the warmth of home and pancakes.

Top running Lambeth!

Never too cold for two tasks in Lambeth

Lambeth Report written by Katie Welford

We had loads of brilliant new runners, which was fantastic as it was the coldest night of the year yet. We celebrated Rose reaching 50 good deeds and also Sarah, who has nice new hair, which is a bit shorter and a bit pink too.

Tom Benson dropped off the bat light but was TOO TIRED TO RUN. We were all left wondering why but never mind that, we had two tasks to do. Both of them were outside so we all wore as many warm things as we could manage and went outside for a nice warm up.

A smaller group led by John Hunter and the bat light went to the Moorlands Estate, where they were met by Karen plus two residents, Kathleen and Antonella. There was woodchip to be spread and weeds to SUPPRESS so they got on with it at speed with some nice exercises to keep warm along the way.

The rest headed off to Loughborough Farm, where there was more woodchip to be spread, this time on some new paths. Katie took some of the group off to do some fitness and before we all knew it, the task was finished! We did a bit of speedy running through the park before returning to Papa's for some stretching then ran off home to have a hot shower and maybe a baked potato, as those are very warm.

WELL DONE LAMBETH!
