Coventry Report written by Liz Pharoah
This Saturday, 13 members of GoodGym descended on Spencer Park in Coventry in order to support its loyal volunteers with some tasks.
The sun was shining this morning, and many runners either enjoyed some parkrun fun or walked and ran to Drapers in order to clock up a few extra miles and enjoy the bright blue skies. We also welcome three new members; Megan, Debbie and Vickie. We hope that you enjoyed your first session and come back soon! We were also visited by Councillor Kamran Caan and Coventry Council as part of the city’s ‘Coventry Smashes Sport Week’.
After we met at Drapers, we took the short run through the city centre to Spencer Park. We soon set about tackling some of the tasks. Some GoodGym members blitzed the tennis courts which needed clearing of the twigs, sticks and debris that had blown in during recent bad weather. By the end of the session, the courts looked clear, ready for the community to enjoy a spot of tennis. The other half of the group dug up an immense amount fo enormous roots and turned over the soil for some new flower beds for a new project with Age UK and a local Primary School. They did a great job in no time at all.
Once we had finished our task, we took a short jog over the road to Top Green Park where we did a one mile challenge. Everyone completed the three laps of the park to complete their one mile and it was lovely to see everyone supporting one another to challenge themselves to achieve their own personal fitness goals.
The sun was still shining as we headed back to Drapers where many of us stopped for a well earned coffee and catch up in Drapers.
