Thanks to James for the title pun and some of the action shots.
All I can say is kudos to the 6 Goodgymmers today who braved the mid-afternoon sun on the hottest day of the year to dig, weed and chop at Common Ground.
We made good progress on digging out the compost from the compost bays (finding lots of non-compostable content along the way) for them to eventually be rebuilt and the compost to be put to good use on the garden. We used teamwork to haul very heavy stone blocks to edge another area. We chopped back brambles and we weeded beds. We were then treated to ice pops, which were very gratefully received! We hope to be back very soon to finish the work on the compost bays and have lined up as a potential for a group run 😁

Supporting Ignite Imaginations and Age Better in Sheffield, GG Sheffield elves collectively helped to deliver over 300 gift bags to residents across Sheffield containing craft activities, quiz, reading materials, a small gift and Christmas chocolate to provide caring festive cheer to isolated persons aged over 50 this Christmas.
We were happy to welcome Robin on his first Community Mission with us :)
Whilst GG Charlotte was undertaking the final stages of Christmas bags creation with a team of volunteers, Charly kept up the Christmas cheer by providing mincepies to the GGrs waiting to collect their allocated gift bags.
Highlights have included:
- Team Jachel (James and Rachel) - using Rachel's car as a base to store parcels, and make run deliveries to get the exercise in. Their favourite comment: "it's not often you get to meet one of Santa's elves" from a lady in a Christmas cracker hat after a Zoom party
- GG Charlotte allocating locations "Daiana and Andrew you are covering the North!", Andrew: "Sheffield up to the Scottish border??"
- Andrew and Daiana delivering a gift bag to the hospital after finding out unfortunately one recipient had gone into hospital, after trying to deliver to her home
- Caroline, an NHS nurse is never off duty, calling up an ambulance about health concerns about a recipient
- GG Charlotte and her little helper delivering to a man who looked like Father Christmas! Complete with white beard and twinkly eyes!
- Team Sat Nav KatAshtrophie taking our time in finding our first house delivery.. fortunately efficiency followed after, and we met some lovely people including one lady saying "I'm not quite 90 but I have done my Maths this will be my 90th Christmas" awww, and our final delivery to a lovely 96 year-old lady wearing bright pink trousers and a lovely jumper, making our day more colourful and giving us some good gardening tips too on hydrangeas :)
GGrs showed real perseverance revisiting addresses if residents were not in first time round, with Charlotte demonstrating great organisational skills again, providing support for revisits by calling residents to agree times for GGrs to redeliver.
Great work everyone :) :) :)

5 GGers, including first timer Natalie headed this wet Saturday morning to new task location, Community Ground Community Garden.
Common ground is a community green space and hall run by local volunteers. The gardening group meet every Saturday morning. It's a lovely space with flowers, vegetable beds, trees and meadow.
Kat and Ash weeded flower beds, Rachel and Natalie cleared woodchip areas of grass and weeds, whilst James got to work chopping back overgrown buddleia. Lots to get stuck into here, we'll be setting up as a regular session.
