Haringey Report written by Euclides Montes
11 Goodgymmers rooted for glory as they lent a hand at Floyde's Garden to help them prep the site ahead of a very special landscaping project.
Many hands...
With the recent passing of our GGHaringey Stalwart Nurjehan, the good folk at Floyde's Garden have kindly offered to host a tree planted in her memory, which will become the focal point of a brand new landscaped square for the gardens.
First order of business was digging up a number of deep-rooted dead trees and a multitude of brambles to create a blank canvas of sorts for the new planting scheme.
To that end, our Goodgymmers gathered at Blue House Yard where we kept warm with some light exercises, including introducing some of the new folk to the wonderful world of wall sits, before running a cool 2k to site together. Once at the gardens, we were met by Laurie - from Noel Park Big Local who look after the site - who talked us through the tasks at hand.
Before you knew it, we had lept into action and were digging and leveling to our heart's content.
We were also tasked with helping to rescue some bricks from the works on the adjacent playground so they can be recycled as a small plaza around Nurjehan's tree.
Within an hour our Goodgymmers had completely cleared the site and helped the pile of recycled bricks grow even taller so we had a little nosey at the progress on the playground works next door.
We then did the only reasonable things on a cold night like this and ran to the closest watering hole for much-needed refreshments.
We'll be at Traid next Tuesday and all being well, we should be planting Nurjehan's Tree on Wednesday - watch this space.

Great evening Eucs and fam but a shame the TWO wall jumping photos didn't make the cut - were they/we that bad? 😄

12 Goodgym Fashionistas vogued their way through the streets of N22 as they ran to help clothing charity Traid to get their shop floor ready for their winter collection.
Front Page Headliners
Big up to Hardcore Sam who joined us straight after a bout of the dreaded Covid bug and made the catwalk look more like a cakewalk. And it was her birthday this week to boot. Star.
Special mention for Becca too, who joined us for her first proper post-lockdown group run. T'was like she never stopped. Boom.
Getting a Foot in the Dior
We were joined by GG legend Ivo last night so everyone was in their best behaviour - or at least we tried! Seriously, some of this lot you can't take anywear.
Anyways, we had a lopsided run last night as the good folk at Traid had been hard at work since 6 so we did a very short 1k run straight there so we could help.
Most of us arrived on time, whilst some unnamed Goodgymmers left it appropriately and fashionably late to arrive at the party. Some people will run 23 miles just to make an entrance - runners, eh?
At Traid, we got on with the familiar jobs of packing away the clothes and working out our frustrations with a bit of hanger management.
Gramps tried to put on some frilly purple pants but was fervently and physically talked down, on account of both Ivo and his mum being there for the task. I suppose we've found the line for our Haringey Goodgymmers.
After a very efficient 45 minutes, the team at Traid were gratefully ushering our rowdy lot out the door, but not before saying thank you and taking loads of pics with the team. Another prompt mission completed.
It was then a case of the Disappearing Goodgymmers during our long run back to base as one by one, people started peeling off home.
In the end, Kapil, Ivo, and Gramps made it back to HQ for High Fives. Ace.

6 rugged Goodgymmers, battles with the waves of North London as they ran to lend a hand to the wonderful LIteracy Pirates in Tottenham.
Kudos Corner
We are led to believe our very own Nurjehan turned a year older when in truth it looks like she's not aged a day over 21. All the same, a very happy birthday to our Haringey rock star! <3
Guts and Glory
When we were one, we ran around,
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of the River Lea.
Some orange pop to fizz my tum
A Pirates’ life for me’.
-
When we were two, Lordship Lane came into view,
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of the River Lea.
A velvety cake to fill my tum
A Pirate’s life for me’.
-
When we were three, we leafleted free,
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of the River Lea.
Avoid the dead fox, with an empty tum
A Pirate’s life for me’.
-
When we were four, we put up posters galore,
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of the River Lea.
Nurjehan bumped into an old chum,
A Pirate’s life for me’.
-
When we were five, ain't no time for no jive,
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of River Lea.
Birthday shanties we sung,
A Pirate’s life for me’.
-
When we were six, it's time for pics,
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of the River Lea.
A selfie here, no one look glum,
A Pirate’s life for me’.
-
When we were seven, erm... what rhymes with seven,
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of the River Lea.
Heaven or Devon, that rhymes with seven,
A Pirate’s life for me’.
-
When we were eight, it was getting late
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of the River Lea.
Time to plan the weekend's parkrun,
A Pirate’s life for me’.
-
When we were nine, Gramps wants some wine,
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of the River Lea.
We're done here now, time for home,
A Pirate’s life for me’.
-
When we were ten, we'll do it again,
The day we went to sea.
We climbed aboard a pirate ship
And good ol' Gramps said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
Forwards backwards,
Over the valley of the River Lea.
Joined us next week for loads more fun
A Pirate’s life for me’.
We have a lovely Saturday Community Mission in Wood Green, and then we'll be visiting Traid on Wednesday for some fashionable shenanigans. Join us :)
