Not allotment to do: gotta plog through this

Haringey Report written by Pennie Varvarides

This week 11 wonderful GoodGym-ers ran 2km to clear litter from the nearby green

The plan was originally to help at an allotment, but due to unforseen circumstances they couldn't use us this evening.

Plan B was to strip paint at Kori, but the tools were not in my bag, so we moved on to plan C: litter pick the green

Lots of new faces this week (to me), including GG newbie Chloe - give her a cheer!

We quickly warmed up in front of base with some single leg work, skipping and the burpee name game, before heading off on an extended lap of the block

We collected some litter pickers and bin bags and split into teams collecting rubbish from the bushes

All sorts were found, including the usual vodka bottles, tins and a solitary shoe

After 25 solid minutes we put all our rubbish in the bins or recycling, returned our tools and had a quick round of a circuit to get everybody warmed back up

Burpees, squats, pushups, vertical mountain climbers and planks. Before finishing with a quick game of duck duck goose (which decended into some unexpected chaos in the end)

The group then semi sprinted back to base for stretches and high fives

Next week Chi is incharge. He'll be b leading the group to chestnuts park for some mulching and other green tasks while I'm away at a wedding.

I just realised I didn't take a group photo this evening! But there is a video of duck duck goose on my Instagram stories, if you wanna see everyone running around

Earth Hour X GoodGym- Digging Deep!

Hackney Report written by Joel Wiles

An Evening of celebrations!! A triple GoodDeed milestone run combined with Earth Hour, Hackney Parks, digging, Stag Beetle loggers, 4K Run, Fitness session, social and ohh yes CAKE!!

Massive thank you to everyone who came out last night both to the group run and social!!

Huge shout out to Clair and Anne for notching up a magnificent 100 GoodDeeds each!! Amazing dedication, hard work and happy times!

To the cake makers thank you!! Cake fest 2019 was incredible!! ** Eva, Toyin, Emily and Mireille** you are all stars!!

Awesome to have so many people come along to the social! Hope you enjoyed it as much as me. Looking forward to our next milestone/ race celebration so we can do it all over again!

So the task, running out to Well Street Common in fingers crossed our last dark task for a while we met Bruce and the Hackney Parks crew. We first carried all the 30 logs over to the Stag Beetle hotel development area. Splitting into 2 (non competitive-ish) teams we got digging!

Having to get down to half the depth of the longest log this was no mean feat. Dario had everyone in awe as his silky digging skills came to the for and got team 1 down to the right depth in quick time. Some fine tuning with some excellent clumpage removing squared off the whole before the logs went in. I finely honed cluster of logs half buried in the ground was half art instillation and part rooting wood for the ** Stag Beetles** to feed and make a home.

With the other team catching up fast the soil went back in to complete the renovation and we were done!

With a little time we brought the fire and smashed out a running/body weight conditioning circuit to get us primed for the social ahead!

A quick run back and we were refuelling to the max!!

Great to have you along! Hope you can all make next week when we help ** Cordwainers Grow** saving a plants and trees from a community garden than is being forced to close.

Enjoy

Joel

Beware the plog

Haringey Report written by Pennie Varvarides

This week 9 awesome GoodGym-ers ran 5km to help the local area

Our planned task didn't pan out, so instead we ran to Dave's to collect some bin bags, gloves and leftover flyers and did an impromptu double task: flyering for the refugee centre and plogging through Lordship Rec (litter picking x jogging).

We split into two teams and hit up four or five roads between Downhill Park and Lordship Rec, steering clear of barking dogs protecting letterboxes and the gates that need an engineering degree or a password to get through

Once the flyers were all gone, we headed to the park and filled three black bin bags of rubbish found stashed amongst the bushes

The dead bird was left in its resting place to feed the earth and worms

We then all regrouped atop the hill to finish up with some hill sprints: gently down and up with pace, focusing on using our arm drive to power us up the hill

After three strong rounds, it was time to head back to base for stretches and high fives
