Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)
Today was another little dollop of cement on my thought that being able to walk, run, and volunteer with GoodGym is a privilege. And it's a privilege because I know I get far more out of partaking than the net benefit of my efforts. Which is just fine by me, because many small acts of kindness can roll into something wonderful, and I get to be part of a community of kindred spirits and happy souls.
This morning, Islington's super-good-deeder, Laura, and I rocked on up to the swanky Old Diorama Arts Centre. Nestled in between Regents Park and Euston, it houses a truly awesome community benefit society, Lifeafterhummus. Their work is rather special (give their website a perusal at http://www.lifeafterhummus.com/) and for the people in the local community who rely on their help, they're life-savers. So it was a bit of a joy to turn up and offer our helping hands.
Our task was simple. Take their trailer trolley (whom we called Tina) down to the Tesco Metro in King's Cross and pick up the crates of food they were donating. Which we (Laura, Tina, and I) did leisurely and all whilst enjoying the sights of a quiet North London Sunday morning. 13 months ago, this spot would have been bustling. It's a little more serene these days. I guess there's always a benefit if you stop to notice it.
Out and back within the hour, we dropped Tina and our three crates worth of supplies (thank you, Tesco) back to Becky and the Lifeafterhummus team and then headed onwards to our afternoons. And all a little brighter to have been out, living, and helping.
Nice one.
