The team hit two huge milestones tonight at FoodCycle Mitcham. 21 guests served, pushing the total meals for the year past 1500 and an impressive 365 days without serving soup! A double victory worth celebrating.
Guests enjoyed a hearty menu of garlic mushrooms on roast potatoes, a cosy butternut squash pasta, and a homely apple pie to finish. Comfort food at its finest!
Well done to everyone who’s helped the project reach these milestones. Whether in the kitchen, hosting, or helping behind the scenes, the whole team should feel incredibly proud. Here’s to many more delicious, soup-free evenings ahead!
Operating every Thursday evening at the Togetherness Community Centre in Mitcham, the project welcomes guests from all walks of life to share a hot meal and engage in friendly conversation in a warm, inclusive environment. The meals are prepared by dedicated volunteers using surplus food collected from local supermarkets and grocers, ensuring that perfectly edible food is diverted from landfill and put to good use. Volunteers take on various roles, including cooking, hosting, and food collection, all contributing to the creation of a welcoming space where guests can enjoy both nourishment and companionship. By fostering connections among community members and promoting sustainability, FoodCycle Mitcham not only provides immediate support to those facing hardship but also works towards building a more resilient and connected local community.
