This was a post-parkrun mission teaming up to support Merton Friends of the Earth with vital tree care in Morden Park. The windy weather guaranteed a physical workout as we dove into the saplings, carefully clearing the competing weeds, vines, and grass. The job was finished by applying a good layer of mulch to nourish and protect the young trees. Mission complete, followed by cozy coffee and chat with other volunteers before heading off having had a very active start to the weekend - well done team!

2 GoodGymmers started the weekend bright and early by boosting the Morden parkrun roster, taking on crucial setup and marshalling roles! Despite the beautiful morning light, it was a seriously windy day, forcing us to battle the elements to stop the course signage from being blown away. After successfully completing the setup, securing every cone and arrow, we quickly transitioned into race mode, cheering on the runners (including some of the Goodgym Merton team) from our marshalling points. It was a great feeling to support such a brilliant community event and guarantee a smooth run for everyone!

This weeks visit to Merton's Community Fridge for a post-distribution clean-up session was a little later than usual meaning there was plenty piled up and waiting when we arrived! After a quick briefing on the recent changes and new instructions, we powered through the jobs staying on to finish the backlog.

Tonight I swapped out from the group session to attend the Borough of Sport Forum to hear more about local initiatives, network with community contacts, and fuel our upcoming mission list!
After a number of interesting presentations and a very inspiring contribution, it was great to have some great chats with new contacts from across the borough. The good news is that there were some exciting new leads for future tasks, plus plenty of conversations with existing job providers - all of which will certainly help us keep our community mission list well and truly stocked so a successful evening laying the groundwork for many more good deeds to come!
