21 wonderful people ran 3km to help at Christchurch Peace Garden!

A lovely sunny evening down in Greenwich last night, just how we like it! It was Sibling Day yesterday and so although not as creative or abstract as previous intros, sometimes it is just nice to actually know some good facts about people! And we learnt that nobody in an only child... I think that says a lot about the group, and about only children!

Welcome to new runner JC who will be running his first marathon on Sunday in Brighton! All the best to you! And of course lots of luck to Ben who is also taking on the feat! Go well guys, you're going to be GREAT!

After a brief jog around and some Indian File, we headed off, with a quick photo stop by the river before continuing our relatively short journey to the Church.

We arrived and met Kate who had a long list of things for us to do. Firstly a bench needed relocating, so a few strong folk got to work with that almost immediately. The Silver Birch trees needed the lower branches cutting down and then cut up into smaller chunks for the bug hotel. There were also bulbs to be planted, ivy to be cut back and leaf mould to clear so loads to be getting on with!

Everyone got stuck in, grabbed some gloves and went for it.

Everything I was telling people was apparently wrong so I decided to shut up and just watch the magic happen. After half an hour, all the things on the list had been ticked off along with extra watering and digging weeds out between the paving stones.. AWESOME!

We tidied everything away, brought the tools back, gave the area a final sweep and headed back to the uni via the Thames Path. On our way I noticed a brand new Co-op... super exciting, especially for those that live near there who until now had no food shops near them. Maybe I found it a little too exciting. Anyhooo... we arrived back at the uni shortly after to witness the messy birth of my brainchild.. the clover fitness session.

So to send even more good luck to the Brighton runners, I wanted to make a whole bunch of 4 leaf clovers :) We paired up, one person ran a leaf while the other rested and so on, until the whole clover was made. Thanks to Brin for recording it as a separate run on Strava to show the beautiful art (see photo!). Meanwhile, Andy was getting carried away and running after dogs!

We called it a night and had a stretch up by the road.

Great job everyone! You all got SO much done! The garden usually only has volunteers once a week who are fairly elderly so it is a big help for you guys to come along and do all the heavy duty stuff! WELL DONE!
