Report written by Sam Ollason
13 of us ran up to St Phillips and St James' Church in Odd Down. We helped paint wooden camels and a wooden sign that will form part of their Christmas nativity decorations. We had lots of fun and managed to run nearly 8km!
A hilly-silly-chilly fun-run-pun
After the welcome talk and sharing GoodGym news, we completed a brisk warm-up and got on our way. There was no avoiding the hills tonight! We ran up Holloway and then up Bloomfield Drive to get to Odd Down. Some of the faster runners ran ahead and looped back and we made sure that there was no one left behind as we progressed up the steep hill!
Mo Camel and O'Camel
We met our host, Andy, at the church. He introduced the task to us and told us about their nativity vision. They have organised for a variety of community groups to decorate and paint a set of wooden animals. The animals will be displayed on the grass outside the church and will create a fun, welcoming and festive mood for all visiting and passing by the church. Andy also asked us to paint part of a large sign they have that will also form part of their nativity scene.
Meet Mo Camel and O'Camel!
We had lots of fun using our creativity and team work to design and paint the camels. We used a pair of old running shoes to make one camel especially running themed! One camel was named "Mo Camel" in honour of the runner Mo Farah and one was named O'Camel in honour of the great pun this week! As you can see from the pictures, both camels were created with very different artistic styles but Andy was very happy with how colourful and unique they were!
We wern't in a b-rush to finish!
The church will be unveiling their Christmas scenes on Wednesday 12th December. As well as our 2 camels, they have another camel, an ox, 6 sheep and 1 donkey. If you are in the area, go and see our work!
After a much-needed drink and a biscuit we said goodbye to Andy and ran back down Bloomfield Drive. This is one of our longer routes so we were all really pleased with our achievement when we got back to the Leisure Centre.
Thanks to Mary for the pun this week and thanks to Chris to backmarking for us!
