When Ace of Clubs, an incredible centre providing hot meals, internet, showers, nurses and clothes to vulnerable homeless people in south London contacted us to say they were having an unexpected kitchen inspection on Tuesday and could we help, we jumped at the chance. Some of us had been there the week before to see the vital work they were doing, and given the line of people waiting for food stretching down the whole street, we couldn't let anything get in the way of the important work they do.
The last inspection they had was in August of last year, and sadly they were given just one star. The challenge was on. So, along with their amazing volunteers, we grabbed our wipes and anti-bac spray, our mobs and hoover, and we started cleaning. Down came spiderwebs, out went out of date food donations, until surfaces were sparkling and there wasn't a speck of dust to be seen.
It all paid off when we got the good news later that day that the centre had scored a massive full five stars!
