Report written by Bournemouth runner
We did our worst impression of Michael Fish this week, and preempting the weather, correctly, decided to give the option to have a slightly easier fitness challenge than usual.
With the sun blasting this week, the gang were challenged to set out on a run/walk/ride or swim and set themselves a distance that they were going for. Then set off without having any markers for time or distance and see if they could judge when they hit there preset distance.
Rules were: no watch or phone to give a hint of time of distance. No usual route to be able to guesstimate distance etc and no buddy to guide them.
The scorching heat played havoc with most of us but for some it's was like they were born in the Sahara and the heat didn't mess with their heat and effort gauges at all!
Fredrika and Daryl were the bravest and set themselves the furthest distances. Both aimed for 10km. Fredrika only just coming up short at 9.4km, and Daryl smashing past his target, obviously he's way fitter than he thought, or just really enjoyed his route?! Daryl ended up running over an extra km on top.
Sue also set herself a good target along with Neil. Trying to go for the 8km mark, or 5.5miles in Sue's old money. Neil melted after 5.8km and called it good then and Sue only coming a 1km short of her mark or 3/4 of a mile.
Keith and Lea were more sensible and decided to do theirs in a walk and aimed for 5km, but also almost did a km extra ending at 5.93km in total.
I aimed for 5km and although I guessed it at 5.78km....it felt like I was running in quick sand had actually run 10km!
Marianne was the most heat adaptive and showed the most common sense. Set herself a sensible distance of 3km and only missing the mark by 200m!! That's very impressive!!!
Good effort everyone.
From this next week, the challenge's stop from me, although Task Force can set stuff up on the website if you wanted to. We now switch our focus to Community Missions, so if you know of any organisation that needs a hand please let us know so we can set lots and lots of missions up to bring the good vibes back to Bournemouth.
See you soon on a mission somewhere!!
