Report written by Tom Mutton
On the hotest day of the year a super hot @GGSHEFF crew welcomed no less than 5 brand new hotties to the @GGSHEFF family, a big whoop, hola and cheers to our new runners;
Give em a follow by clicking on their name.
It was a forking hot day so we took it nice and steady on the way out with a few loop backs thrown in to keep everyone together.
Once we arrived at Heeley People's Park we were greeted by FANTASTIC FRANK who had already made Kat & Ash team captains for the evenings tasks which this week included a whole lotta weeding! We split into our two teams focusing on two troublesome areas and got straight to it filling tonne bags with weeds and finding all sorts of interesting finds along the way including a hubcap that Steve made into a new contender for the Turner Prize (you had to be there), an old school winch and a pumped up football which was donated to Frank and HPP.
It was so hot I nearly soiled myself - Roberto Kenning.
After a good spell, you could really see the huge impact we had on the area with Frank singing our praises in disbelief!
Before we headed off SENSATIONAL STEVE spotted an opportunity to make some human ART ATTACK using the hill of the crows nest as a vantage point to create a Human GG logo which is tonight's group photo and I think you'll all agree came out fantastic and was a great idea, cheers Steve-o!
On the way back we stopped of at one of our fave parks to get in a quick 1km time trial run around a conveniently marked track around the park. It was three laps and everyone put in a great effort! Don't forget to tag your run on STRAVA with #GGOlympics2018
On arrival back at base we stretched and heard all the latest news inc congrats for all the Round SHF Run runners and vol's - Great work!
BIG THANKS to TERRIFIC TOM HARMAN for doing all the fantastic photos for tonights report, a great eye you have!
Until next week, happy running!
Heeley Development Trust (HDT) is a small, charitable development trust, founded by local volunteers, business people & residents in 1996. We have delivered youth, community, environmental and economic development projects in and around our neighbourhood for the last 20 years. Our projects include; Heeley People's Park, Sum Studios (saving a Grade 2 listed Victorian School and redeveloping as managed work space – this is bringing jobs and investment into our community), The Heeley Voice - a local magazine and Recycle Bikes – a social enterprise supporting disengaged young people to gain training, confidence, work experience and jobs. If you are interested in any of our projects, would like to get involved or are willing to volunteer any of your time please do not hesitate to contact us or give us your feedback.
