Facing up to a thorny issue
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Cardiff.
- Saturday, 13th of April 2019
This Saturday two GoodGym runners, Adam and Mikey are on a mission to help out Mrs K in Danescourt. With a brisk run from Canton all the way to Danscourt in a reasonable time of twenty minutes Adam was very happy to arrive at Mrs K’s house nicely just before one. Once there Adam knocked on the door introduce himself to Mrs K, Mikey arrived after having to navigate his way around lots of crowds enjoying the RHS Flower show by going through Bute Park to get there. Mrs K walked us through to the garden and kindly showed us what she would like us to accomplish in her garden. She showed us a thorny bush that was just over six feet tall and said she would like to have it trimmed down to 2-3 foot. She asked that if we managed that we could move on to weed around her lawn and tidy up the borders. Once Mrs K finished what she would like to have completed, she showed them where to leave all the clippings from the bush and the tools we could use. So Mikey and Adam went straight into trimming back the thorny bush, Mikey armed with some shears and Adam had the responsibility of using a saw to get at those thicker branches. After spending fifteen minutes of Adam sawing down the larger branches and with Mikey doing a superb job of taming the shape of the bush that was tucked in the corner from the fence and her conservatory. Adam once completed sawing down all the larger branches to bring the bush down to the height needed, he went onto digging up the lawn borders and using the spade to straighten the lawn edges to give it a much cleaner finish. Mikey continued his job of trimming the bush to remove any more thorny areas. Once Mikey had comopleted this he turn his attention to helping Adam with weeding the lawn border. As the sun was out and a little breeze blowing keeping us all warm, Mrs K was also in the garden chatting to us about her family while she was polishing her old brass kettle. Time went by very quickly and before we they it, it had gone two and Mikey and Adam had gone all around the lawn borders and had emptied out all of the weeds to leave a beautiful tidy border hugging the lawn with the sun. Mrs K was so pleased with how the garden looked and how glad she was to see the bush trimmed down once again. After clearing away all the trimmed branches and pulled up weeds, Adam and Mikey headed off to runback to town.
