I'll bring you flowers, in the pouring rain 🌺 🌧

Grim weather was forecast when we signed-up to this Sunday Mission up in Child’s Hill, and that’s just what was delivered…. Nevertheless our kind hosts provided us drinks and biscuits (and even shoe covers) which kept things cheery, and their nice dry veranda meant we weren’t completely shut out there in the rain with nowhere to hide.

We weren’t alone either, pretty much every organism both real and imagined was represented in stone out amongst the plants – gnomes, mermaids, rabbits, dogs, foxes, squirrels, owls, falcons, seals, pigeons, hedgehogs, ducks, frogs and even a lobster all had a place.

Soon enough too, one of our hosts was out with us in a chair and getting the dead leaves up out of the beds with a grabber. Meanwhile we used the rake and the leaf blower to do the same in the beds and on the lawn. Given that the leaves were wet and getting wetter, the leaf blower proved more useful as an excuse for making ‘blowing’ jokes, than it did its intended purpose.

Rupesh had been here on a Mission in the past with Laura, and they’d planted bulbs around the beds. The daffodils and bluebells had already come through, so between that and the petrified menagerie, the garden was proper cheerful in spite of the inclement weather. We also used a bow saw and loppers to clear some woody dead stumps from around their pond (home to the lobster and the mermaid)

With a bin stuffed full of dead garden stuff we bade farewell to our sweet hosts, just in time to smell the beginnings of their minestrone soup dinner as we left.
