Maidenhead History Tour
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Windsor and Maidenhead.
- Sunday, 24th of March 2024
This was my second visit to Mrs J who was in very good spirits when I arrived on the not-to-late Sunday morning. I mentioned to her that I attended the Maidenhead Parkrun yesterday at Braywick Park which had a new leisure centre next to it. Mrs J reminisced about the time there was an outdoor swimming pool Cookham Road and how she used to get there driving her old Austin A35, what a classic looking car! This lead to us chatting about the various buildings in Maidenhead that have changed over the decades, from where the old Nicholson brewery once stood is now the Maidenhead Shopping Precinct to the old red brick library that was re-furbished into a modern glass library. Did you know that the Legoland theme park used to be a safari park almost 30-40 years ago? I didn't! Mrs J's son also visited during my visit where he was coming to help pull weeds out of her back garden, this also meant Mrs J got a helping hand to go outside to her garden which really put a smile on her face.

Well done for visiting Mr J. I did know about the safari park, but only because I read about it in one of Georgeta's recent social visit reports. The person she was visiting had a rather alarming story about her son wondering into the big cats' enclosure! Great to hear these tid bits about local history.
