20 GoodGymers made their way 11.0km to help their local community in Westminster.
- Wednesday, 21st of January 2015
"Hands up, who wants to take the stylish green bum bag?" run leader Cory called out to a room of eager January GoodGymers, while holding up the first aid kit. Then we left our cosy room in the basement of Westminster University to brave the cold streets of London and dodge shoppers who apparently hadn't got the memo that it wasn't Christmas any more.
We headed south, gently running through Green Park and incorporating a few 200m sprints on some quieter back roads, before arriving at St Saviour's church in Pimlico after about two and a half miles. On arrival, brooms, rakes and rubber gloves were distributed among the group and we set about sweeping, weeding and pruning, working up a sweat in the freezing winter air.
After 25 minutes of hard labour, we downed our tools and Cory pulled out an unexpected bag of treats. After somewhat of a feeding frenzy, we got our run back on and headed to base. There were a few newbies, as well as seasoned red-tshirt regulars. We chatted running and fitness and discovered a couple of GoodGymers were training for their first marathons in Spring - GO TEAM! Very inspiring.
Well done everyone, and thanks to Cory for his running (and selfie-taking) skills!
