We came, we saw, we tidied
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Newcastle.
- Wednesday, 20th of March 2019
On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon in Newcastle, Liz and Richard, two eager runners on a mission from GoodGym, arrived at Mr B's home, meeting with his social worker to try and create some space ahead of his discharge from hospital. Mr B's well-rested son greeted them all (eventually!) and welcomed them inside to begin their task.
Mr B has spent considerable time in hospital and has had accidents around the home so the priority was to tidy, dispose of any rubbish and create some space so that everyone could access the house without any issues. After much careful negotiation between Mr B's very diligent social worker and his son, a plan of action was agreed and much tidying and rearranging was carried out.
After considerable effort, Mr B's home was left with far more space to move around in than previously, although there remains a little bit of work to do, which wasn't possible on the day. The GoodGym mission made a very positive impression on everyone involved, with Mr B's social worker promising to encourage his colleagues to organise other similar GoodGym missions in the future.
