What day is it?
3 GoodGymers made their way to help the Portsmouth City Council in Portsmouth.
- Friday, 31st of January 2020
- Led by Samantha Belfrage
3 runners met at 3.45am yes you read that right, am!
Yawning and rubbing our eyes we met a fantastic team of staff and volunteers at Portsmouth City Council. Our role for the next two hours was to count the number of people sleeping rough in Portsmouth.
A difficult task but the teams had lists of hot spots and knew where people had been bedding down in recent days.
This is a really important job to have an accurate picture of rough sleeping in Portsmouth, so the counts are carried out every two months.
We were divided into 6 teams spread across the city.
Jo and Aimee were in one team with an experienced counted and I was in another.
We were made to feel really welcomed by everyone and Sara provided snacks and lots coffee for those needing it.
It truly was an interesting way to explore the city in the early hours of the morning, for an important cause.
As mentioned earlier these counts happen every two months, so keep your eyes peeled on the GG website if you're able to help.
