Underarm, Overarm, Biscuits and Tea, The Bowlers at Parkinson's Cricket are We

Friday 10th January

Written by Derby runner

It was our first session back at Parkinson's Cricket after the bank holidays, and so good to see the gang again.

Today Alex had the team focusing on a variety of bowling techniques, and which kept the volunteers on their toes retrieving the balls.

We all enjoyed a lovely hot drink and some biscuits afterwards.

Six Six Six

Monday 6th January

Written by Derby runner

Gwyn and Tracey popped along to Derbyshire Cricket Foundation's Monday Mates session. We helped Alex to set up the room, and then joined in the fun with jigsaws, games, a quiz and some seated cricket.

There were a few extra seats for the cricket, so Gwyn persuaded Tracey to play for a change, rather than just fielding as usual. We were each bowled three balls, trying to get the highest score, and Tracey was jammy enough to get three sixes.

We'll be back again in February for more fun and games, do come along and join us.

🎵 The Beamin' Father of Peet Street

Tuesday 17th December 2024

Written by Gwyn Williams

Tracey and Gwyn met Fr Peter at Peet Street to collect leaflets advising of St Luke's Church's Christmas arrangements. We had one enthusiastic passer-by who took a leaflet as we went along, saving us a journey. I met a friendly cat and we managed to slalom around the 🐕 💩 hazards this time. Tracey provided spoons and bags and I was spoon-fed and had everything in the bag!

Hitting the Light Fantastic

Friday 13th December 2024

Written by Derby runner

Today was the festive fuddle at Derbyshire Cricket Foundation's Parkinson's Cricket session, and what a feast we all had!

To warm up, the players had target practice. Alex had set up cones representing the different coloured lights on a Christmas tree, and two teams each threw balls at them. The cones that were hit were then removed from the game and stashed in two piles, one for each team. I looked after the orange team, and another volunteer collected for the yellows. Alex had secretly assigned points to each different coloured "fairy light", including (rather ingeniously) negative points for one of the colours. We then totted up the results, and it turned out that the team that hit the fewest cones actually won. Quality counted more than quantity.

We then had a quick game of cricket before tucking into our delicious food.

That's the end of Parkinson's Cricket for 2024, but we'll be back again next year, and are looking forward to it already.
