Christian didn't fall far from the tree

Wednesday 20th August

Written by Laura

Christian was in his element tonight, he was climbing and sawing trees and playing football with local kids.

The group headed up to Beckhill Community Garden to trim the Ivy from the tree, tidy up the weeping willow & we then put the cuttings onto the dead hedge we made a few weeks ago.

The rest of the gang weeded and trimmed tomatoes. We were then sent home with some Chicken wood mushrooms, runner beans, yellow cucumbers & courgettes. Thanks Lyn!

Helen took the group on a magical mystery tour on the way back!

We said goodbye to Katie who's going travelling for 3 months. Have fun Katie and see you at Christmas!

Hammer Time

Saturday 19th July

Written by Laura

This morning, 7 of us met in the pouring rain at Beckhill Community Garden to saw & hammer posts into the ground to create a dead hedge. Helen pruned tomato plants and Elspeth did some weeding and in hour we'd achieved what we set out to do. Good work all.

Welcome to Helen & Aurora who joined us for the first time. Hopefully see you again.

All's well that ends well...

Wednesday 16th July

What an eventful night we had last night at GoodGym Leeds!

The group ran up to Beckhill Community Garden to help them weed, woodchip and tidy up. At the start of the session a group of local children had found a dog wandering around alone. Luckily, he was a friendly old gentleman and he let me pick him up. After trying to find an owner and having no luck, we decided to take him to a local vet so that they could scan him for a microchip. Jason luckily wasn't far from home so ran up to get his car & drove me and the dog to the vets. Whilst the vet found a chip, the number was out of service, so I was about to bring him back and see which GoodGymer could keep him for the night when Helen called saying they'd found the owner...phew! The dogs name was Charlie & he'd had quite the adventure! Safe to say he was happy to be reunited with his mum.

Meanwhile, Helen had fixed a little girls bike whilst we'd been gone and the others actually did the job we were there to do!

What a dramatic evening spent helping the whole community. Good work team!

Welcome back to Naomi :)

Branching Out

Wednesday 4th June

Written by Laura

Alpacas, horses, weeding, running & cake...what more do you need on a Wednesday evening?! We spent the evening running to Beckhill Community Garden, visiting the Alpaca's on route. There was a big group tonight, so we weeded a large area, litter picked, cleared the steps and laid cardboard and wood chip. The garden was celebrating winning a certificate for outstanding volunteers, of which GoodGym Leeds have been a big part! A few of us then headed back to Heart for a drink and cake! Thanks for a great evening all :)

Twelve kids & a peaceful home

Wednesday 7th May

Written by Laura

What a night! We celebrated Katie's upcoming wedding with a feast by Shannen & her catering company, The Honest Supper Club. The food was amazing & we polished it off with cake curtesy of Snack Force leader Jubz. Thanks guys, we loved it!! We all had a go at writing Katie's vows & apparently 12 kids & a peaceful home are on the agenda, along with pants on a lamp post?!!?!?!?!

Before the feast, the runners were taken on a wildlife mystery tour with an Alpaca being the star of the show. We did 5K, so we were a bit late for the task, but luckily the non runners were already hard at work (sorry guys)! We trimmed hedges, cleared the brambles, litter picked and revealed the tiles along the path.

We finished off with a walk back to Heart. Thanks for a great evening all & good luck Katie!

A Magical Mystery Tour

Wednesday 2nd April

Written by Laura

Tonight, 11 GoodGymers celebrated the return of the lighter evenings! It's felt like a long winter, so spirits were high tonight.

We headed up to Stainbeck United Reformed Church to clear an area of brambles by the car park. We pruned, trimmed, brushed, litter picked & filled 3 huge sacks of debris. We could notice a huge difference when we left, well done team! Lydia got stuck into the brambles, picking all sorts of weird & wonderful things out including a car wheel, a radio & several items of clothing.

Helen took us on a magical mystery tour on the run back to Heart, encountering a bomb shelter & two horses who didn't bat an eyelid as we ran through their field. We must have made friends since last time!

Welcome to David who joined us this evening and Lyn who organised the session.

Great work team!
