Jumpers - every colour as long as it’s blue

Saturday 31st August

Written by Kingston upon Thames runner

Following a huge donation of menswear recently, today's task was to continue unpacking and hanging a range of men's jumpers... in various shades of blue.

Very satisfying to find the only box that came in another colour (albeit grey!)

Jumpers were duly unboxed, unpacked and hung neatly ready for sale, and the mission was complete.

Stock Stack

Saturday 3rd August

Written by Kingston upon Thames runner

The task today was to move boxes of donations from the loading bay to the sorting area.

The two of us, armed with wheeled cages and a half-time Cornetto, managed to clear 4 pallets, and create a stack of 59 boxes!

We also learned it’s the BHF shop’s 6th anniversary, so happy birthday 🥳

Strictly no sandwiches!

Saturday 22nd June

Five GoodGymers assembled to assemble

Armed with Alan keys, screwdrivers and glue, we put together flat pack furniture donations from Wayfair ready to hit the shop floor at the British Heart Foundation store

The crowning achievement and group effort was a desk - with multiple different screws, a drawer AND a cupboard - accompanied with a manual which made it very clear that not only should people and weights not be placed on top; but possibly most importantly, no sandwiches.

Anyone for tennis?

Tuesday 4th June

Written by Rachel White

It's game, set and match at the British Heart Foundation shop where we set up a sporting window display. Julie, Jade and Rachel met for a shorter group run this week to help build our distance back up. We did a couple of kilometres and met Sabir, Luke and Jana at the task venue.

One large metal crate had already been filled with racquets, balls, and other sporty items, along with a big plastic container filled with trainers and football boots. First job that Luke, Sabir and Rachel started on was to tie all the shoe laces together once they had been paired and set them up in a display. Whilst that activity was happening Jana set about dressing up the mannequins in sporty attire, careful to select eye-catching colours and styles. Julie, Jade and Sabir sorted the racquets so all the tennis ones were together in a wire basket and all the cricket, hockey and squash accessories were in another.

Time went quickly and the area soon transformed! Well done team.

Before we left we congratulated Julie on achieving 50 good deeds - what a superstar!

Flat-pack-tastic!

Saturday 1st June

Written by Kingston upon Thames runner

6 intrepid GoodGymers descended to the BHF basement, armed with allen keys, screwdrivers and chocolate chip cookies, to build furniture donations for sale.

Builds ranged from mirrors and mantelpieces to office chairs (tested with the obligatory spins) - and Theodhor and Sabir tackled a very tricky drawer unit!

It was brilliant to also welcome Theodhor to their first GoodGym task 拾

That was in-tents

Tuesday 30th April

Written by Julie

After the success of last year’s festival themed window display Christine and the team at the BHF had asked us back for a repeat performance. Julie, Rachel and Claire met at the Quaker centre for a sunny 2.5km run to the shop where we met Emily, Jana, Jade and Luke. After fuelling up on some carrot cake bars (getting some veggies in), we headed up to the ‘Narnia’ store room to look through the treasure trove of donated items for anything we could use in the display.

We filled 3 big cages full of sleeping bags, tents, mats, folding chairs and festival gear. Jana kept an eye out for any colourful festival fashion to dress the mannequins in. Sadly the fluorescent pink shell suit Julie found didn’t make the final display!

Julie and Claire moved the cages downstairs in the lifts to where Jade and Luke had made a start on the backdrop of the display - putting down some astroturf and camping chairs. Next our feature tent was put up and the display started to take shape. Jana, Rachel and Emily brought down the remaining items and started putting them in place.

Soon we were halfway through and there were sleeping bags and camping chairs everywhere! We started to wonder how we would get everything done in time, but we kept going and before we knew it the window was looking very impressive. Well done everyone!

Christine always has plenty of jobs that she needs help with so keep and eye out for more tasks coming up.
