Busy Buttons CORE charity

An inclusive charity helping each child find their unique potential using creativity & imagination

A CONSCIOUS JOURNEY "Inspired by a life-threatening event, Busy Buttons was born with an aim to promote creative expression, nurture imagination, make human connections, enrich and empower the lives of young people from diverse ethnicities and social backgrounds with varying abilities and needs.

Over the years, Busy Buttons CORE has grown to continue in its outreach delivering vibrant inclusive programmes and events to the community promoting arts, heritage and culture.

Addressing the recent global challenges, Busy Buttons has responded immediately by offering interactive programmes and virtual events encouraging safe but vital social interaction during lockdown, sparking creative imagination, encouraging discussion and inspiring

children to reduce prolonged passive screen time and engage in hands on activities.

The world is undergoing a transformation and we all must respond to very new needs and situations simultaneously as they arise. Thus we aim to encourage our young people positively to rise to the demands of the unfathomable and unpredictable challenges with great ingenuity, imagination and a โ€˜can doโ€™ attitude."

10 GoodGymers have supported Busy Buttons CORE charity with 3 tasks.

Something old, something new

Thursday 4th July

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

This evening we were helping Busy Buttons, a local charity that provide educational support for children and young adults.

The team got to work straight away clearing the weeds from the entrance infact Sue had almost finished by the tome Amanda and Sheila arrived at 6.30pm! Great work Sue.

After some slight confusion at the start we were warmly welcomed inside the creative space by our task owner, Lau. Inside was a bright and energising space full of new works of art created by users. Sheila and Amanda were especially taken by the elaborate sewing stations.

After moving them into their new premises inside St Agnes Church on a previous task our job this week was to smarten up the garden. Jen and Sue got to work digging up an unwanted mountain ash tree sapling (the tree is fast growing and harmful to the church foundations) whilst Sheila tackled the bindweed with another local volunteer and managed to uncover the memorial to WWI and WWII victims

The team then moved planters into place and filled the with compost ready for the children to start growing vegetables and flowers - hopefully bringing fresh life into this space.

What a performance!

Thursday 25th April

Thursday 6:15pm is GoodGym Windsor Night! ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Tonight we were doing a double bill with not one but two acts of kindness ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Helen ( who had just run the London Marathon ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐ŸŽ–๏ธ), Devon and Mandy met at The Binoy for a social run and Sue, Adam and Margaret (her debut GoodGym session ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป) met us at the task.

Then the show began โ€ฆ. Or was it a circus ๐Ÿคฃ

For our first act we met our task owner Anne at Busy Buttons (St Agnes Church) and Anne kindly showed us the church garden. We de-weeded the gravel drains, broke down and moved some old wooden furniture and other rubbish to the front of the church to be collected and swept/made tidy. Devon even did a bit of guttering clearance !

After the interval (as in us hot footing to the pathway near the church with our belongings) we got to work for our second task. We had done some work here in the dark but we had not quite finished it so we did that tonight. Devon and Adam had a great technique and were very neat and precise and polished. Mandy less so ๐Ÿคฃ she kept getting her lines all wrong ๐Ÿคฃ although Helen did keep her in check. Sue and Margaret attached the brambles. We filled three bags which is amazing in the time we had.

Soon it was time for the final curtain and we took a bow, gave ourselves an huge round of applause and made our way home.

Thank you all as always Windsor GGs ๐Ÿ‘‘ โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Thursday 7th March

Thursday night at 6:15pm is Goodgym Windsor night ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธand tonight we were helping Busy Buttons CORE charity setting up at their new location a first for the Windsor team.

This was a community mission so some of us met at The Binoy on Dedworth Road for a social run or walk to the task and some met us there. Welcome to Didem on her first Windsor session ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

We were met at the location by task owners Louella & Lautaro who briefed us on what we needed to do.

Anyone who has moved to a smaller house will know you need to think outside the box ๐Ÿ“ฆwhen wondering how to get it all in and then in the right place but we were not boxed ๐Ÿ“ฆ into a corner for long. It was like a Goodgym game of Tetra (no dropping or dragging though) but definitely gaining power ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป! We followed the room plan on the board, clearing one area so the organisation can begin. Relocating and then stowing away boxes ๐Ÿ“ฆ in the correct stage area.

Workshop Sample Art Sample Fabric Misc Sell Shop To name a few of the categories oh and the odd chatterbox ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿคฃ

We did a crate job! Our spirits were lifted as well as the boxes๐Ÿ“ฆ!

Did I mention we lifted some boxes๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ“ฆ ๐Ÿคฃ

After the task we made our way back to the meeting point for goodbyes or directly home but not before the Windsor curtesy and box ๐Ÿ“ฆ oops I mean bow๐Ÿคฃ got boxes ๐Ÿ“ฆ on the brain! ๐Ÿ‘‘

Thank you as always for attending ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
