There's No 'I' in Great Big Green Wee.... !!

Tuesday 11th June

Written by Yianny (he / him)

Ok looks like a bit of a typo slipped into the title of this week's run - my apologies ;0)

As AA Yianny was out of town Joao was ready to step in and lead the short run over to help out at Rush Common, just up Brixton Hill.

Sylvie (welcome back!), Louise and Jo (nice photos - thanks!) headed up to help out the Friends of finish off a community event getting residents to help clean up Rush Common.

Marie-Noelle also set off to find the group but the group worked so efficiently that it was almost pack up time before she could reach the group walking - sorry Marie-Noelle we will have plenty for you to do next week!

A mention also to Michael who planned to join but was unable to without somewhere to leave his bag - again we look forward to seeing you next week.

Thanks all and don't forget we have our summer picnic next Tuesday, check out the listing below, come along and bring something to share with the group if you can! https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/helping-at-landor-road-summer-picnic-tuesday-s-group-run

Feeling Vine in Ivy's Garden !!

Tuesday 12th March

Written by Yianny (he / him)

This evening's run was looking like a soggy affair a few hours before but fortunately the weather gods were smiling on us - not only was it dry and clear but bordering on warm as well. Has Spring sprung?

Our regulars Mark, Tilly and Michael met at Papa's with Jo scheduled to meet us on our way to Holy Trinity. This evening's category was favorite fiction book with shouts for Life After Life, Devil in a Blue Dress, The Count of Monte Cristo and non fiction History of Britain.

After a nice 4km flat run to HT we were met by Nicole and Adam alongside James (Father Nature) who was taking us through the planting of an Apple Sunset tree in a giant tractor tyre. First up the group needed to wade into the mud to level the tyre itself and then fill it with loose bricks and big rocks and then the fun really began. It was soil shiftin' time with many barrow loads of soil being loaded at the bottom of the hill and then run up the track to the tyre to fill it.

The group did a great job with many tens of barrow loads coming up the hill then being unloaded into the tyre which left only one thing to end the session - to plant Ivy's new apple tree! What a lovely moment to end the session on. Check out the photos and we can't wait for the summer party to enjoy the outdoor space and welcome in the new hall.

Thanks to all and see you next time :0)

What the Fox?!

Tuesday 5th March

Written by Yianny (he / him)

We are back folks! A great turnout last night for our Group run after a few sparse weeks and we were heading over to help Father Nature (James to his friends!) with the Lavender Maze in Max Roach Park.

An all too familiar story for AA Yianny who is crocked again and wasn't able to run to the task so had to hobble across but never fear we had Louise and Michael who were able to lead a fast loop up to Stockwell and then back down the Brixton road to the park with Mark. We would also like to wish Mark a big Happy Birthday for his Bday this week - another year younger and if like me no wiser at all ;0)

Once we had all arrived at Max Roach we were met by our resident walkers, Jo, Paul and Marie-Noelle as well as James and our task was to weed and clear all the invasive species that were muscling in on the lavender in the maze. it was absolutely wonderful to see how the maze is looking now and we can't wait for some sunny spring days to get a real look at it in full bloom.

With our kneeling boards, hand tools and plenty of fingers in soil we managed to clear the whole maze of weeds and leave it looking tip top while also allowing the lavender to grow free of intrusion.

Just after 8pm we were done and packed up and our walkers and Mark headed home, Louise and Jo were off to do a reccy of the Effra social for the London GG April social (details available soon), while AA and Michael made our way slowly back to Papa's - sorry Michael!

Big thanks to all and see you next week.

Litter Me This!

Tuesday 13th February

Written by Yianny (he / him)

It was looking like a very small group on the GG website last night but luckily we had a new runner joining us via the listing on MeetUp.

Martin was along for his first ever session with us and we were delighted to have him!

And so it was that we had Tilly, AA Yianny and Martin heading out for a last minute changed session of Litter Pick Bingo. We headed out towards Clapham North and round back towards Brixton before we cracked out the black bags, gloves and trusty litter picker to begin our task of cleaning up Lambeth's streets.

Our best item was a little circuit board so definitely counts as an unusual item and along with a customary gas cannister we filled 3 bin bags and deposited them in the large bins along the way.

That was it for last night, simple and effective and we wish Valcie a speedy recovery and hope to see her very soon at the rearranged Landor Road session.

Thanks to all and see you next week!

Tidy Lambeth - Tidy Mind !!

Tuesday 16th January

Written by Yianny (he / him)

What a night last night! It was AA Yianny's first run back and there was no end to the surprises and challenges - but more on that in a second.

We had special visitors from our friends at Southwark GG (some cynical people would say they are just trying to boost numbers for the Jan Challenge but i know that they missed us that's all ;0)) so great to have Sam and Maria with us!

The evening began with AA being stuck on a call for emergency flights for his day job so the introduction and category section was conducted with gentle 'hold' music in the background! Anyway after going through our favourite rare animal types (panda ants - who knew?!) we were ready to set off on a quick lap (sans AA) before coning back to pick up gloves and black bags.

LPB is a simple but fun task for GG Lambeth - collect as many items of rubbish from the list and help tidy up the local streets. We divided into two teams with Southwark pair facing off against Lambeth legends Katie, Fi and Michael.

Each team had 35 mins and a handful of bin bags to compete for the title of Jan Litter Champion. And the winners were.... Lambeth legends!

It was a tight decision but LL gathered one or two more items and also found a piece if a car (full size car not toy!) vs a baby's dummy.

Well done to all for coming out in the freezing temperatures and see you next week!
