Lismore Circus Community Woods is an urban space in Gospel Oak, staffed by volunteers, which is where we come in. They can always do with some extra help and there were ten of us!
First we had to move a fallen tree. Then we set to work on the hedges, which were growing over footpaths and a cycle path, and were generally looking rather untidy. Fancying ourselves as skilled hairdressers, we thought about working on perms, wedges, buns, braids, and mullets, but in the end just made some nice fringes.
By the time we’d finished, the paths were free of overhanging and overgrown foliage, and the hedges were cut back to leave a proper edge to the path.
A special welcome to Victoria, who we’d previously met at Hampstead ParkRun, and was here for her first ever good deed! See you again soon Victoria.

This special group - Imogen, Jackie, John, Siobhan, and Steve - made a visible difference on this spring evening.
Hidden just south of Gospel Oak station, Lismore Circus Community Woods is a patch of wild green that's been cared for by local volunteers for nearly 30 years. Lush and unique, it's a spot of wild (and communal) sanctuary :)
Having been welcomed by Suza, our wonderful (community champion) host, we swiftly got going with our evening task.
A mature block of Pyracantha - which is often known as Firethorn - needed a gentle trim and tidy. Cue many secateurs trimming and chopping, amidst stories and laughter (and even friendly passersby complementing our good work!)
Thank you, everyone, for your time and energy - it was lovely to see you all - and you made a visible difference to this special community space :)

A strange sight was spotted in Gospel Oak last night.
Small head-bound lights scurried around Lismore Circus. They were doing something good and there was intermittent laughter.
And amidst these lights, some sort of superhero was running around in their cape. We can't know their name for certain, but... we think it was 200!
This wonderful group of Cecile (on their first GoodGym outing, welcome!), Gosia, Jackie, John, Michael (on their first GoodGym trip to Camden, welcome!), Michelle (also on their first good deed, welcome!), and Steve joined Lismore Circus's community champion, Suza, to clear the area of discarded trash and litter.
And we were also celebrating Gosia's 200th good deed - a huge congratulations, Gosia! The cape was John and Jackie's idea, and Gosia was soon running, twirling, and jumping like the superhero she is :)
Over 40 minutes, this group cleared the community garden of bottles, wrappers, and cigarette ends, before exploring further afield into the adjoining Lismore Circus and walkways. Nine people working together can achieve a lot in 40 minutes, and this group's efforts made a visible difference.
Thank you, everyone! Here's to next time!
