Party time at Parkview

Friday 29th August

Written by Sarah W

What a lovely afternoon helping at Parkview Care Home's Summer Party!

It was down to work as soon as we arrived!

Johnny was put on bunting duty, while Cat, Sarah and Martin were in charge of balloons to complete the decorations.

Then it was Pimms o'clock, mixing jugs of the cocktail and serving it - along with beer and soft drinks - to the residents and guests.

After that we helped with the raffle, before lending a hand to those who needed it at the buffet table.

The grand finale was handing round portions of that amazing cake, making sure no-one was forgotten.

After a spot of tidying up we said our goodbyes and headed home, happy that we'd helped the party go with a swing.

A puzzling night

Wednesday 30th July

Written by Graham Lee

I made a long awaited return to GoodGym duties along with Susan, Martin and Cami who was participating in her debut GG task โœจ๏ธ - welcome Cami.

We were due to be washing the minibus at Parkview Care Home ๐Ÿงฝ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿชฃ. However, the evening became somewhat confused when, arriving at the care home, no minibus was in view ๐Ÿค”.

With the absence of sponges and minibus, the task was aborted. We were offered weeding ๐ŸŒฟ, but given the excellent work undertaken by GG Bexley on previous visits, there was a lack of weeds.

So, it was suggested to come indoors and engage with the residents in some games and quizzes.

Susan and Martin played pairs with a number of residents, to match pictures of well-known celebrities such as Morecambe and Wise; Johnny and Sarah were missing from this list.

Cami run a quiz session involving capital cities, while I had a challenge from Catherine, the resident Scrabble champion. A very competitive 40 minutes were spent with Catherine coming out on top.

An enjoyable evening for all concerned and we'll be back to share other activities!

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly ๐ŸŽถ

Wednesday 25th June

Written by Susan Lee (She/her)

It was a hot run ๐Ÿฅต from the Crook Log Leisure Centre tonight, but we arrived to cups of water awaiting us with team member Amanda! We also had the pleasure of meeting the resident ginger cat relaxing in the cool office!

We decided to help in the courtyard garden area by weeding the raised flowerbed, sweeping the paths and watering the plants and lawn ๐Ÿ’ฆ.

Resident Joe joined us in cutting back the mint ๐Ÿƒ and Pamela with cutting the lavender to make fragrant bouquets.

Time went so quickly and the heat subsided into a lovely evening.

We are already looking forward to our next visit!

  • Hobbies - knitting soft toys and jumpers, tap dancing.
  • Childhood and family pets - cats ๐Ÿˆ, dogs ๐Ÿ•, a goldfish ๐ŸŸ and even a parrot ๐Ÿฆœ.
  • Favourite holiday destinations - Cornwall a firm favourite.
  • Sports played at school -netball ๐Ÿ€ and rounders โšพ๏ธ.
  • Footie teams - Manchester United, Chelsea.

And we met the care home cat, Ginger, who seems to have a very comfortable life!

Next month we'll be washing the minibus and planting flowers, so come along and join us.

Iโ€™m going to wash that patio furniture right out of my hair!

Wednesday 9th April

Written by Susan Lee (She/her)

What a fabulous evening we had at the Parkview Care Home! After running 2km from the Sports Centre and with Martin on his bike, we met up with Sarah & Johnny already there.

Amy took us through to the inner garden area where there was plenty of patio furniture that needed our attention after being stacked up over the winter.

Johnny and Lisa placed an old bench in the skip after braking it up with a sledge hammer ๐Ÿ”จ! Certainly made them feel better afterwards!

Two of the residents joined in with sweeping the area ๐Ÿงน which helped us and we were finished in no time!

Looking forward to going back soon!

Bench Life

Wednesday 22nd January

Written by Susan Lee (She/her)

Tonight we helped with sanding down two garden benches at the Parkview Care Home. One group ran from the Crook Log sports centre and the other group met there. We received a warm welcome from Andy and Annette who provided refreshments upon arrival. We soon got on with the job of sanding down the benches ready for the residents to paint them. Andy wanted to know more about Goodgym and said he was impressed with what we do! Luke was photographer this evening and done an excellent job! We are looking forward to going back soon!
