Fighting Nature Fighting Back!

Wednesday 24th September

Written by Jen Stoneham

Our task this evening seemed a little counterintuitive for GoodGymers as we were helping remove weeds that had fought their way back through astro-turf. But for good reason, as one of the young residents of the block has an allergy to the weeds coming through, and he loves playing outside! We made quick work of neatening up the space, and even managed to clear the greenery from between the paving slabs too. Sustenance was provided, which was very much appreciated by Ness who had forgotten to eat all day!! Two teeny residents came out to check out our handywork and had fun running around and crawling over the decking.

🌸 Blooming Wonderful 🌸

Wednesday 2nd July

Written by Jen Stoneham

It was certainly a warm evening for a run, but we managed a 5km round-trip and an impressive weeding mission.

On this visit, we were focusing on the car park area rather than the family garden. We weren't quite sure what the weeds were that we pulling up, only that the little sticky pods they leave on clothes are called Sticky Willies!

Conversations around nicknames, cultural depictions of ghosts and scorpions hiding in bushes kept as going through our toil. We finished our evening by planting ourselves in one of the new planters - how blooming lovely we look! 🌸

Eggspecially For You

Wednesday 4th June

Written by Jen Stoneham

After his outing to the O2 last night, Richard just couldn't get Kylie out of his head, so our evening at the Salvation Army garden was inspired by Ms Minogue.

The runners set in (Loco)motion, all with their 100 Wings on for the occasion. Two extra good deeds were also undertaken on the way - Jen reporting a crime and Judy helping a young man with directions to the train station.

After we'd been Spinning Around trying to find the right building, we headed to the family garden to pull weeds and offer a general tidy up. The Kids had left plenty of treasure to be unearthed, including a number of eggs left over from April's Easter Egg Hunt, a tiny horse who liked to curtsey, Lego and various insects on sticks amongst the litter and weeds.

We Should Be So Lucky to have such lovely hosts, who provided biscuits, water and a visit to their resident Leopard Gecko, Gigi. I know I'd love to Step Back In Time and visit again, I don't know about you!

Apologies for the strained use of Kylie Minogue puns, but you wouldn't have me any other way - Better The Devil You Know!

Toys, Toys & More Toys!

Wednesday 9th December 2020

Written by Portsmouth runner

Back to the Salvation Army today to sort more donated toys ready to bring some Christmas joy to under-privileged children. Along with the toys, we had some lovely toiletries for teenagers and a huge box of newborn/baby soft toys, rattles, and things to bring a smile to even the tiniest of faces. Once the bags had been cleared, I put together a few more mini Christmas stockings that Jen had made a start on yesterday.

Today's task was sorting donated toys in to different age groups and genders ready for the Salvation Army to give to some of the most disadvantaged children in our community. There were so many lovely things donated - all brand new, which I wasn't expecting!
