Slowly does it

Saturday 28th September

Written by Bournemouth runner

Nine Goodgymmers, Chloe, James, Luke, Millie, Sophie, Eleanor, Daryl, Keith and Lea, were ready and raring to go walk leading the Walk for Wards at 9 o’clock this morning…. Eh, well, the organisers had failed to mention that the actual walks didn’t start till 11 o’clock! Goodgymmers being Goodgymmers filled the time with reading about the queen, about rocks and minerals, and happily chatting away, admiring the bubble machine and getting some faces painted. The Star studded lawn, with Captain America, Mary Poppins, the Incredible Hulk, Resident Evil (eh who?!?!), Snowwhite, Sulley, Ghostbusters …. added a bit more entertainment, although Millie, Sophie, Luke and Eleanor were nearly drawn to “The Dark Side”! Nope, didn’t happen: ready for the off first were Sophie, Millie, Eleanor and Luke, leading the 10k walk. Closely followed by Daryl and Lea walk leading the 5k with Keith as a backmarker. Last but not least Chloe and James set off to lead the 3k walk. My oh my, was it sloooow going! What didn’t help was a lady thinking she was walking the 3k , but she was in the 10k group. Luckily we managed to point her to the right group. And there were many people of such varying abilities. Kudos to the old guy in the 5k pushing a lady in a wheelchair all the way round! Seeing why and who people were walking for was really impressive. The 10k walk all the way to the Asda roundabout and back got a little “long in the tooth” and James not getting through to the organisers emergency numbers were a tad tedious (read: annoying/frightening)! But with the weather Gods providing us with bluer than blue skies, we were all happy to have completed another Goodgym task! Thanks everyone!

Glowing the distance

Friday 23rd June 2023

Written by Caprice McWilliams

KC, Daryl and Caprice were so pleased to be able to help UHD NHS Charity with their 10K Charity Twilight walk. They were asked to marshal the 10K turn around point which was located near Fisherman's Walk. Over 200 participants made their way across the promenade to raise money for the Charity with amazing outfits and smiles all round. With High Fives a flying KC, Daryl and Caprice cheered them on to their finish line. What a great sight and for a great cause! Well done to those that entered. You smashed it!!

3x3 Relay

Wednesday 11th August 2021

Written by Bournemouth runner

This week's group run was to help spread the word for the Walk the Wards fundraiser for our Hospitals. A great event that we hope gets a lot of sign ups.

Daryl, Sarah and I met up at the top of St Leonard's road in Charminster where we had decided to start from.

Daryl ran in from Winton and Sarah ran, biked and ran to meet us from Branksome. I ran out of time so had to settle for cycling to the meeting spot from Boscombe.

With around 200 flyers Daryl and I set off at a blistering pace weaving in and out of driveways. Sarah then joined us and we changed our approach a little to take both sides of a road at the same time.

Each time we crossed we had a little chat and we got through the flyers pretty quickly in the end. There's lots of dangerous and non flyer friendly letter boxes out there...impossible to get a letter in!! I'm glad I'm not a postman!!

With out hands empty we jogged back to our meeting spot to collect my bike and say out goodbyes.

Sarah and Daryl are running at the Cranborne Races this Sunday so send them a cheer and if you're there too, keep an eye our for them and good luck to you all!!

Hope to see you all next week!!
