Lewisham Report written by Lewisham runner
Paul and Adi were up early in glorious sunshine to litter pick in Lewisham - Adi on Saturday dealing with debris left behind by picnicers the day before in Sydenham's Mayow Park; Paul picking up the Stella cans left by the open air drinkers of Deptford by the Ravensbourne in Brookmill Park. Paul also pulled out a lot of the invasive and destructive Himalayan balsam from the banks.

As is often the case, two Lewisham litter pickers were separated by a day and 8 km. Adi was enjoying a lovely, sunny litter pick in Mayow on Saturday morning. Paul was in Deptford’s Brookmill Park, the day before. Along the Ravensbourne there had been a high water flooding the small flood plain in places. The higher water brought a lot of bottles and cans with it. For the first time this year secateurs were brought too, to do a bit of trimming of brambles and nettles to keep the path open.

As usual, Lewisham duo Adi and Paul picked litter in separate parks on different days. Adi was in Mayow Park in Sydenham today (Saturday) which was messy after heavy park usage yesterday. Paul found a dustpan and brush in the bushes by the Ravensbourne in Deptford's Brookmill Park, plus a fair amount of other rubbish. For those wanting an update on the herons, the 2025 young are flying and there seems to have been a return of the surviving young from 2024.
