Bin There, Cleaned That

Lewisham Report written by Lewisham runner

There was a two pronged attack on litter in Lewisham. Adi was braving the wind on the fringe of Storm Amy on Saturday morning in Sydenham’s Mayow Park, where there were lost toys, broken branches, but not vast amounts of litter. Paul braved the rain the day before along the Ravensbourne in Deptford, he had a ‘helper’ - Milo a very disobedient dog who through being close to the river was more fun than staying with his humans. There were a couple of bags for life full of litter collected.

Another Session by the Lewisham Litterati

Lewisham Report written by Lewisham runner

There was a three pronged attack on Lewisham litter this week. Armed with her litter picker, Gill took time out on her trip from Luton visiting relatives, to plog in Lewisham Park. Adi kept the paths and grass of Mayow Park in Sydenham litter free. Paul picked litter brought down by high waters on the Ravensbourne in Deptford’s Brookmill Park.

Being picky about how we do good!

Lewisham Report written by Linda Gatley

Armed with litter pickers and goodwill, a heroic gang of GoodGymers chose how to help clean up their own areas... Matthew in Wandsworth and Adi in Sydenham's Mayow Park, while Linda and Paul were both alongside the River Ravensbourne in Brookmill Park. Linda' trusted litter picker hoisted soggy, abandoned clothing out of the river and cleared bankside vegetation of plastic bottles that Paul hadn't been able to reach. Paul also pulled out a couple of clumps of the invasive Himalayan Balsam plant.

As always, it felt satisfying to pick a task that helps make the world a nicer place for both people and wildlife.

Less is More

Lewisham Report written by Lewisham runner

There were two GoodGym litterpickers out in different parts of Lewisham - Adi found a lot less litter in Sydenham's Mayow Park than last week. Paul also found less than last week in Deptford's Brookmill Park. He did find more herons ans more fox cubs.

Picking It Up As We Went Along

Lewisham Report written by Lewisham runner

There aren’t any real rules for this task, so it was a question of picking it up as we went along. Adi may have been wearing the 50 good deed t shirt, a milestone passed last week - well done! Adi was certainly enjoying the almost autumnal feel while Plogging in Sydenham’s Mayow Park this morning.

Paul had some his litter picking the day before along the Ravensbourne in Deptford’s Brookmill Park. There was lots of litter that had been washed down after high flows the week before. One of the herons watched me from a safe distance.
