it's been a busy time for community meals and we were asked to support at another Christmas celebration for older folk, this time at Futures House in Marsh Farm. four of us were on hand to help make the event go to plan. The first task was to decorate the hall and get it looking festive. our red GoodGym shirts adding to the festive feel, and of course a couple of Santa hats completed the look. Then it was all hands on deck to plate and serve the three course meal. Having eaten dinners ourselves there was then an opportunity to throw some shapes in the dance floor and burn off some of those calories before starting on the mammoth clean up task. But as always Vera and Ian and all the guests were really appreciative of our efforts and it was nice to be rewarded with some Christmas goodies too.

What a fabulous team of volunteers we had at The Hockwell Community Centre for setting up and serving at the Seniors' Christmas lunch. Our GoodGym team of 5 was supplemented by two of the All Saints guys who we met a couple of weeks ago during the Church Cleaning task - I think they probably count as associate GoodGymers.
Gil (here's a surprise) was stuck mainly in the kitchen carving turkeys and helping to plate the food, ably assisted by Omar once service was underway.
It was lovely to have Anthony, Ali and David heading up the serving team, starting off with serving up bowls of piping hot vegetable soup to the 100 or so guests, before getting in their steps as they came back and forward from the kitchen to the hall with plates laden with a traditional Christmas Dinner.
There was time for a brief interlude, which they needed, to recharge their batteries and scoff some turkey, before returning to the kitchen to serve up the mince pies. The final task was to help with clearing up and washing up. It was a long old session but Vera was very appreciative. And we all left with a goody bag of chocolates to help us celebrate at home.
