It was great to see some new faces at GoodGym Wandsworth last night - so a huge welcome to Emily, Adam and Fadia!
There was a definite chill in the air last night so we got straight on with a warm up for both body and brain. First we got our muscles working with a series of high knees, heel flicks and those tricky reverse lunges before all naming a tube station that starts with the same letter as our first names. That was definitely more challenging for some of us (sorry Jordan!).
Our job for the evening was at food charity Waste Not Want Not who have big plans to refurb their headquarters to include greater services for local users, including a dining area and shower.
Unfortunately we had a bit of a wait to get access, and it was just as we decided to kill time with some wall sits that Hadas turned up to let us in - just in the nick of time!
There was plenty to do once we got inside, so we quickly got cracking shifting donations, sorting through piles of tin cans and packing up food. With such a flurry of activity the time flew by until we realised we had to go and there was no time for fitness - next time we'll do double! Great work tonight everyone, it makes a big difference at a small charity that people really rely on.
Next week we are back at Doddington garden to help with various jobs followed by our monthly pub quiz social, hope to see you there!

With love in the air, we kicked off the run last night naming one thing we care about - and they included our Mums, family, friends, running, trees, chocolate and football. Happy Valentine's Day one and all! We were keen to spread the love in our community, but there was a last minute change of plan.
Instead of the previously scheduled litter pick in the area, we responded to an urgent call from Hadas who asked us to come to the Waste Not Want Not charity to help move all the food collected for the community into storage so that they can get some major works done.
This organisation saves food that would be otherwise wasted and uses it to feed the community. They have big plans to turn the hub into a dining area, with space to store more goods, and facilities for vulnerable people including a shower for those struggling with homelessness.
Our job was to load up the van so we got stuck in straight away. While the team inside packed up all sorts of weird and wonderful things including barberries, masses of anchovies, an innumerable number of beans and vats of pesto...some of which may have ended up meeting a bit of a sticky end on the floor. Meanwhile the van team were doing an amazing job getting the van stacked up with as much stuff as could feasibly be made to fit in the most efficient way possible.
Our last task was to dismantle the shelving units - something which looked a lot easier than it was! But with a bit of elbow grease, some team work, lots of ingenuity and the use of a hammer, they were soon down and ready to be packed. What a job team - well done to all of you! It's just incredible to see the impact many pairs of hands working together can have in just one short window of time.
We finished off the night with a little fitness session which featured three minute mountain legs. We spotted some snowdrops (spring is coming!) and then made for base to do our stretches.
Next week we're back to Doddington Roof garden to help sand down and paint benches - you can sign up here.
Until then, have a great week GoodGym!

Today officially marks the end of the January challenge, but there is still one more day to get those good deeds in! GoodGym Wandsworth has done an amazing job - we've smashed our target of 1200 kms. We're just 12 good deeds short of our target of our 100. Why not have a look if there is something going on that you can get to today and just maybe we can make that happen!
Great to see you all in slightly warmer conditions last night. Our initial plan was to clear the garden at the brilliant Waste Not Want Not charity - an organisation which stops perfectly good food being thrown away and instead uses it to feed the local community - but Hadas had other ideas for us.
The charity has been working on a new dining area which needed to be painted. That's where we came in! Grabbing all the rollers and any tool we could lay our hands on we got cracking. Calum and Jamal took on the room next to the kitchen, Sophie, Jordan and Catherine were in the lobby, while everybody else squeezed into the kitchen area. Meanwhile Steph heroically tackled a monster pile of washing up in the kitchen.
It was another GG transformation, as within 45 minutes the place was freshly painted, looking brighter and more welcoming for local people. Way to go team.
There was just time to squeeze in some very tough but very effective tabata in the park before taking on that hill on our way back for stretches.
There's lots of fun social stuff coming up, as well as plenty of sessions to get involved in. Next week we're planning on entering (winning) a local pub quiz after our group run, all the details are here.
Have a great week GoodGym - and don't forget, one more day to reach our 100 good deed target!
