Hounslow Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
Surely we had one of the most beautiful runs ever to and from our task last night? The Staveley Rd cherry blossom is famous - for a couple of weeks the road is lined from top to bottom with the most fabulous pink blooms as far as the eye can see. It was a joy to run under them (pausing for a few pics of course!)
The fun didn't stop when we arrived at our task location, the Chiswick allotments, as we had not one but two different jobs to choose from! Half of us elected to go with Jo to dig a path for the Wild Chiswick plot, while the other half opted to accompany Steve, who was busy preparing a plot to grow potatoes for the Hounslow FoodBox.
Unfortunately we met our match with the solid ground. Little rain recently plus the previous tenant's no dig policy meant that the ground was super hard. With our forks twanging off the compacted soil we had to use all our GG might to make any headway! Still, after half an hour's hard work, we were surprised by the good result.
With weary muscles we went over to the Wild Chiswick plot to see that the team there had managed to dig away a fabulous new path in no time at all! There was talk of red ribbons and champagne to open it - I'll look out for my invite!
We took another scenic run back to base for stretches and discussed all the fun stuff that is coming up. This weekend there is a great new mission to tidy up the outside of a community centre in Feltham which sounds fun and rewarding.
If you're interested in joining the [Friday Night LIght's running festival] (where you can choose from a number of races plus all the vibez, then GoodGymer's who sign up for a volunteer session there on the day get free entry!

Last night we were back at Chiswick Horticultural and Allotment Society to help Hounslow Community Foodbox with their vegetable patch.
Ten goodgymers made their way to meet Steve, one of the Foodbox volunteers, to dig the plot, turn over the soil and make a start with planting potatos. We welcomed Ritchie to his first Hounslow task and there was lots of energy and enthusiam thanks to the lighter nights and sunny days.
All the produce grown will go towards emergency food parcels for people in need in the borough. Foodbox are super grateful for the help and we'll be back next week to continue turning the soil and planting more veg.
Smashing effort!
