This one's written in memory of Matthew Perry, a courageous and talented man who will be missed by many.
Today a couple of us met for a run before the usual monthly litter pick in a trial of a Sunday Group Run! Shout out to Nicole my new neighbour who joined me on her very first group run! We met the rest of the group on the common to start the task and it wasn't for the faint hearted today with the heavens opening just as we started the litter pick. I can't speak for our other GoodGymers - Felicity, John, Sarah and Marta were off doing good across the far reaches of the common. These guys know the best spots for litter being regulars here! Meanwhile, Nicole, myself, Lukas and Maria squelched our way through high hill and yonder vale, picking up nappies, stella, nitrous oxide and a rather impressive torn apart guitar. It always amazes me that something so miserable as traipsing through the rain picking up litter can be made fun when we're together.
Maria had some geeky moments, searching for mushrooms and deciding they weren't the psychedelic kind!
A lovely morning, topped off with some hot chai provided by Green S Welfare UK.
Until next time, folks!

Maria Paula Giuffra Rodriguez earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Maria completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Maria was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

On a cold sunny Sunday morning, 4 Good Gymers descended on Florence Green in New Cross. The volunteers there needed help developing the space and Good Gym were soon put to work digging trenches ahead of future planting of new hedgerows, and equally importantly clearing away mud and dug-up grass to prevent the remaining grass from dying. Before you knew it the work was done and we were rewarded with tea and biscuits. This is a lovely task that will need help for a while so look out for future sessions.

Wednesday 27th September saw 9 GoodGymers (welcome newcomers Maria & Lukas!) meet outside the Crossrail Station in Woolwich for a hop, skip and a jog up the hill to our task at Dee’s Childcare.
Once welcomed by the team there, we were presented with our challenge for the evening: Levelling Up the Playing Field (or rather, levelling up a small hill made up of re-purposed car tyres and soil). This needed to be de-constructed and then re-built to form a supporting structure around the existing slide.
Challenge accepted, lots of digging, ground flattening and re-arranging ensued and within the hour a cheerleading-style pyramid of tyres had been concocted around said slide – a rainbow of painted tyres featuring on the front section.
What seemed like a daunting task at first, turned out to be one where the time flew by, and proved team work really does give us a pitch perfect result. Thanks to all involved!
