Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner
Another busy morning at the Baby Bank. 4 of us were put on the dreaded door duty - answering the door and accepting donations and handing out referral packs to the health professional requester. We were kept extremely busy, checking that donated prams, cots etc met all the safety standards and had the correct bits and pieces before we could accept them. We got our steps in carrying clothes and toy donations upstairs for checking. Everyone rose to the challenge and we all learnt much more about what can be accepted and also how to collapse modern prams! Sheila A was also put in charge of the referral phone for the first time, checking off when referrals were ready for collection, where they had been put, and when they had been collected. Rebecca and Lauren were extremely grateful for our help, freeing them up to do other things Sarah was upstairs - sorry, I didn't get a chance to catch-up with what you were doing, but I'm sure it was mega!

We certainly were kept busy with donators turning up with car and van loads of stuff. Big learning curve knowing what to accept and what to turn down. Phew!

It was another busy Friday at the Baby Bank. Six GoodGymers joined other regular volunteers plus a large group from a local company on a Social Responsibility Day. While Sarah was putting together referral packs for families, the others got on with sorting clothes. It was first time that Sheila K, Carol and Helen had been given this task but with help from old hands Carol and Sheila A, they quickly got to grips with ensuring that nothing got through that was dirt, too worn or too bobbly. We want to treat the recipient families with respect and only give them good quality clothes and equipment. Huge kudos to Sheila K for running all the way there - and all the way back!

Today at the Baby Bank we were all on clothes-checking duty and/or preparing referrals. Rebecca gave us all a reminder talk on the need to remain vigilant to ensure that no poor quality garments get through the checking process. Unfortunately many of the donations are dirty, too worn or zips don't work, and the Baby Bank prides itself on only giving out good quality clothes. I think we were all extra-picky for the rest of the session

As ever, the Baby Bank had a busy morning. Mark was in the Toy Room putting together toy packs for different age groups. I didn't catch up with Sarah, but I presume she was clothes -sorting. Meanwhile Carys and Sheila were downstairs answering the door, and getting to grips with which items we can and cannot accept, and checking that incoming cots and buggys had all the bits and pieces and were fit for purpose. I think we were all a bit frazzled by the end of the morning!

Oh gosh, sorry to hear it was frazzling! Iโm sure you were all a huge help. Hopefully you felt refreshed by the sunny day on the way home! ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐

Three new branches of Travel-log hotels are open for business at Braywick Nature Reserve following our latest GoodGym community mission.
The beetle boutiques, which will make perfect venues for stag parties, were constructed using logs we half-buried in the soil.
We began wheely quickly, transporting enough logs for two hotels, but after some very speedy digging it was agreed that tree was indeed the magic number and a third was built next door.
Thanks to everyone who came along and logged another good deed!

What a night! A fantastic 20 Goodgymmers turned out to support Alexander Devine and their Easter Fundraising campaign and to celebrate 5 years of Goodgym Windsor & Maidenhead!
The evening was split into two partsโฆโฆ.our task and our party!
Part 1: Chick-stuffing! Hannah and Nicole from Alexander Devine provided us with stacks of chocolate eggs and knitted chicks! We had to stuff the chicks with the eggs and then add little tags so people knew who the chicks were supporting. There was a wide variety of chicks with added hats, bows and even bells! Each group found their own way of getting through the stacks of chicks and there was a whole variety of ideas to ensure the labels stayed round the chicks necks securely.
We managed to stuff and label ~550 chicks, smashing last years numbers! These chicks will be distributed to local schools, shops and businesses where they will be sold and the money will go to the Alexander Devine Childrenโs Hospice Service. This is a crucial resource for families with children who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. They provide support during the hardest times and ensure parents and siblings can make precious memories.
Part 2: Party time! Once we had got our fill of chick-stuffing it was time to celebrate 5 years of Goodgym in Windsor & Maidenhead! Everyone was given a coloured medal indicating their team and they gathered together the items beginning with G they had brought with them, and had to come up with a team name and a story about their mascot. We had Green-hatted, disco loving Gizmo, a couple of galivanting Garyโs, Goodie who enjoyed Grapefruits and golf ball collecting and Georgetta the gardening goddess!
It was then on to the games! Each one tenuously themed around our Goodgym tasks! First up was our love of the community allotment represented by potatoes in tights thrust at small posts, a game of skill and accuracy! Next we celebrated the Goodgymmers themselves, with โPinโ the medal on the Goodgymmer, this involved blindfolds and mini mascots and a lot of loud encouragement! Of course we could not leave out our most dependable task; litter picking! As if by magic a heap of litter swept into the room and needed clearing, involving mini high-vis and litter pickers! Our final game was a well contested round of musical chairsโฆ.and we know about sturdy chairs as we have mended many at the community centre.
A party is not complete without cake, and we are lucky to have some great bakers in our group! Whilst we tucked in Amy encouraged us to think about our goals for the next Goodgym yearโฆ.maybe a milestone to reach, a distance to run or trying our hand at social visits. An opportunity for us to step outside our comfort zone knowing our fellow Goodgymmers are backing us all the way!
We also took the opportunity to celebrate our combined and some individual achievements from the last 5 years and Amy gave us some incredible stats for the last 5 years:
- 7267 Good Deeds completed by 438 Goodgymmers!
- 1674 group sessions and 184 social visits!
- Travelled 56,744kms!
- Cheered each other 34,795 times!
We should all be really proud of ourselves, whether we were there on task 1 or tonight was the first, the difference we have made, and will continue to make in our community is incredible. ๐
Well Done Team! Hereโs to the next 5 years!
