We started this week with a good GGSHF cheer for three new runners. Please welcome and cheer;
This week we also welcomed Lucy who was a trainer in LDN who has made the move up to the mighty Steel City along with boyfriend Paul who also used to be a trainer in LDN, look forward to seeing more of you both soon!
We were back off up to Lynwood Gardens last night to help REGATHER with the maintenance that is required to keep this fantastic community space (which includes a woodland kindergarten). This weeks tasks included;
Everyone got really stuck in, Chris, Dan & Chris commitment on the wheelbarrows was incredible, running full barrows up and down the hills to supply the spreaders with a steady supply of the chip!
After a good session we downed tools and headed in the direction of home. On route back we used and underpass for some paired high knees/wall sit action and threw some extended loops, stair sets and loop back on for good measure.
On return to base we stretched off, heard the latest and showed our appreciation to Chris who will be away now for a little while until Nov, best of luck Chris, look forward to having you back.
Until next time, happy running!
:)

A big GG welcome to new runners to Julia Cobham and Sarah McPherson for attending their first run! Hope you enjoyed it and will be back for more soon!
Hannah was also on her 100th good deed and therefore donned the now customary wings and helmet for the honor.
*Give em a cheer! *
This week's run was longer than usual and true to Sheff town's wonderful form it was hilly, 20% in some places!
Everyone did a sterling job with regular regroups at the tops of climbs to admire the cities beautiful sights as the sun crested the cities skyline.
This week's task was for Sheffield futures, a fantastic organisation supporting young people. We were helping out this week at Woodthorpe Youth Centre. This week's tasks included:
1- Painting : Primer to window grills x4 people 2 - Painting : Primer to handrail x3 people ( inc wire brushing ) 3 - Painting : Primer to selected areas of sculptures ( inc clear overgrown grass from underneath with shears and wire brushing ) x 2 people 4 - Painting : Primer to goal posts ( inc wire brushing and shears to cut overgrown grass at base of posts ) 2 people 5- Cutting (with shears ) overgrown grass areas on path , around trees and perimeter fencing 1 - 6 people 6 - Clear detritus from car park area 2 people 7 - Clear Astro turf area of debris 1-2 people 8 - Paving weeding - 2 people 9 - Cutting back overgrown bush area at side of football pitch 1-2 people
Everyone got reyt stuck in to the tasks and as the task was a further run we unfortunately had less time than usual on the tasks. We did what we could however which with 30 people on the jobs was still a decent amount!
On route back we threw in some fitness with some step ups and 'Beatles Lunges across the zebra crossing (the cars loved it honest...).
Back at base we stretched off and heard the latest GG happenings past and future.
Until next time, happy running!

On a hot summer evening the GoodGym Sheffield crew embarked on one of Sheffield’s rare flat(ish) running routes to return to the Abbeydale Picture House. We were helping CADS South Yorkshire, a charity which aims to restore the grade II listed building and relaunch it as a social and community arts venue. We met with the lovely Mark from CADS who took us through the tasks for the evening which included:
Splitting into groups we made speedy progress. Our clear up was well-needed with James claiming to have picked up 162 cigarette butts and a significant number of bin bags being filled. Caroline's resourcefulness saw kettles acting as watering cans for the picture house's shrubs. When our work was finished, Abbeydale Picture House looked neater and tidier. The walls of the building gleamed in the sun with its new coat of paint and the car park was a less holey place to be.
We headed to the local park for a ‘spuddy good’ time (Tom H). Following a successful potato harvest at Becky’s allotment, GoodGymmers competed in potato and spoon races and a fast-paced steal the potato game. Antonia, James and Chris’ team claimed victory and were crowned King Edwards.
We then returned to the Showroom to stretch and rehydrate.
Massive thanks for all the hardwork!

A HUGE GG welcome to new runners Tom Mundy and Linsey Mundy.
Give em a cheer!
Welcome both, hope you enjoyed it and see you on another run soon!
Last nights run was back to our old friends at Lynwood Gardens to help MAGIC MARTIN and GORGEOUS GARETH with the upkeep of this gem of a space which also hosts an outdoor kindergarten!
Tasks this week included:
We quickly split into our three teams and got straight onto the tasks with special care being taken with the scythes, being sure to announce if you were being someone - 'a good rule for life' according to Stevie G.
After a good session with everyone getting really stuck in we all 'breathed a scythe of relief' (Stevie G) on a hot midsummers nights eve, downed tools and headed in the direction of home.
On the way back we had a split due to a wedding leftover dense focaccia - In Carolines words 'we're going rouge, it's a heavy loaf'.
The rest of us got stuck into some fitness which included;
On arrival outside the Showroom we stretched off and heard the latest news before heading in for a well earned jar!
Until next time, happy running!

Once again it was time for our regular outing to Heeley Peoples' Park. Thirty-one Good Gym runners were joined by nineteen student visitors from Hong Kong and their chaperones, Serg and Afza, from Sheffield Hallam University. Once we were all gathered at the Showroom there was time for a quick briefing and a group photo before heading south towards Heeley. The group demonstrated a range of paces, but between Harris’s greyhound tendencies at the front and James’s stalwart backmarking, with help from Capable Kat and Long-Distance Dan in between, we reached the Birds’ Nest without losing anyone along the way. Rob, Bev and Frank, our friendly parkies, were waiting with dump bags, gloves, shovels and rakes and implements of destruction. After some health and safety guidance, swift binary fission saw Bev lead one half of the group head off to the Chinese Garden to deal with the dandelions, while Rob led his team into action dealing with sticky willy and other assorted weeds under the Smoke Bushes. With upwards of fifty people in action it took hardly any time to clear the undergrowth, dump bags were filled and taken to the compost heap, the rain held off and soon it was time to make our way back to the city centre for. A small, and probably rather confused, snail was briefly adopted by our guests, who had to be persuaded that ‘No, they couldn’t take it home’. A leisurely trot followed by a stretching session saw the end of possibly our biggest group run to date. Thank you all for coming and welcome to Claudia, Dana and Jacob who were with us for their first time.
