On a blustery Sunday morning, with a strong headwind but plenty of time to spare, I cycled the 4 miles to Collingwood Dock.

GoodGym were returning to the historic dock site, home to The Docklands Trail, which is situated on the quayside.

The Trail overlooks The River Mersey, is right next door to Bramley Moore Dock, home to the new Everton Stadium, and opposite the grade II listed, Titanic Hotel (formerly the Northern and Rum Warehouses at Stanley Dock).

Views across the dock take in the harbour masters house, the Victoria Tower, grade II listed Gothic revival clock tower (the six faced 'Docker's Clock') and the imposing Wallasey Town Hall.

The task: weeding and general tidying of the site, keeping this historic site in top condition for the general public and the creative tours throughout the spring and summer.

I arrived 25 minutes early, and the Trail volunteers very kindly offered me a cup of tea and biscuits 😁 Like me, they were all 'Blues', so we spent the next 25 minutes talking about all things Everton! 👍

By 11, Dan and Heetu had joined us and we set to, clearing an overgrown corner of the site that was hidden behind one of the containers.

Les, a Docklands Trail volunteer, explained that there were plans to hopefully open up this currently blocked access to members of the public.

Between gusts of wind from the river, and the threat of rain, we managed to clear away about 8 bags of detritus, leaving the space a little safer and more appealing.

What is the connection between the Docklands Trail and Arts Groupie? I saw mention of creative tours at the site... what kind of magic goes on?
