A £1 for a 1lb
5 GoodGymers made their way to help the Final Straw Solent and Southsea Beachwatch in Portsmouth.

We welcomed Deborah to Goodgym today for her very first community mission and she definitely stepped up by finding some of the largest items of rubbish with John. Today we joined with the Southsea Beachwatch and Final Straw Solent for our litterpick – something we haven’t been able to do for a while. It was lovely to see so many people coming along – this area is usually full of rubbish and we weren’t disappointed. Deb and John concentrated around the static boats where rubbish had blown and got caught behind other debris. Sinéad Vicki and Mel covered the beach area between the RNLI boat station and Hayling ferry. The tide was going out which had uncovered some more rubbish left behind, but we still didn’t manage to fill a bag. Most of the rubbish seemed to be concentrated along the other side of the point. The Sponsor for litter pick had agreed a donation of £1 for every 1lb of rubbish collected (capped to take into account the heavier objects often found) and today was no exception – collectively the litterpick included a double water laden mattress, towing lighting bar, a deflated dinghy, bits and bobs in a plastic crate, part of a sail, and lots and lots of filled Colas bags. We ended our litter pick with a cuppa, some food, great conversation, laughter, and that feelgood feeling, aka the Goodgym effect 😊
