Watt a mission! Ms E was de-lighted with our work!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Cardiff.
- Sunday, 5th of May 2019
Lucy and I met on a Sunday morning and headed to meet Ms E. We buzzed at her door and she already sounded pleased to see us and greeted us warmly.
Ms E explained that her bathroom light bulb had stopped working two months ago and she'd been using a torch ever since. Lucy and I got to work. Ms E had the step ladder and bulb ready for us. I climbed the ladder and Lucy held it (health and safety is very important!). With a little twist, the glass light fitting came off and the old light bulb twisted out. We put the new one in before the moment of truth... Ms E hit the switch - we had light again!
Lucy suggested that she give the glass fitting a bit of a clean while it was down. Ms E commented that Lucy had clearly been brought up well! The light fitting was restored and Ms E would be able to see again.
We had a lovely chat with Ms E who explained that she'd lived in her current abode for 51 years! She wanted to know all about us and thought we were at college (this made my day!). Ms E explained that she'd heard all about us through one of her friendship groups and our good friends at Care and Repair. She's going to spread the word amongst her friends!
We bid farewell to Ms E - she suggested that as we were runners, we really ought to use the stairs rather than the lift and that she'd be checking from her door! We waved goodbye and headed home. Our mission was brief but we'd made a huge difference to Ms E. What a great way to spend a Sunday morning!
