Special De-leaf-ery for Together Trust 🌿

Tuesday 7th October

Written by Laura Boldison

Five GoodGym Stockport volunteers spent the evening delivering leaflets around Cheadle to help promote upcoming events run by the Together Trust charity.

The team worked efficiently to make sure as many local residents as possible heard about the great work the charity does.

It was lovely to welcome Meera back after a few months away and to introduce our newest and youngest recruit — 11-month-old Olive — who charmed everyone she met!

With cheerful chats, a bit of light exercise, and lots of community spirit, it was another feel-good evening of doing good together.

A Comm-Unity Mix and Mingle Day

Saturday 27th September

Written by Hazel Molleda

Hazel successfully completed her first solo mission by representing GoodGym at St. Matthew's Church Open Day! Armed with handmade banners and a flyer (artistic skills unlocked 😅), she kicked off the day by walking to the venue and setting up the GoodGym table.

The event welcomed 17 local and international groups, many of whom were introduced to GoodGym for the first time. Attendees were genuinely impressed by the concept and its impact on the community. Several groups exchanged contact details, expressing interest in future collaborations—an exciting step forward for GoodGym’s outreach!

The venue added a warm touch with refreshments including coffee and cakes, while face-painting brought extra colour and cheer to the background atmosphere. The local library also gave out some free books!

What a rewarding weekend!😊

Leafleting at dusk

Tuesday 23rd September

Written by Ben Foster

This evening, we spent a productive 60 minutes delivering leaflets for Together Trust Charity to advertise their Halloween event in October. Hazel and Ben handing out over 100 leaflets to residents local to Cheadle.

With the promise of pumpkin 🎃 decorating, even the local dogs got excited, with Harlow the German Shepherd showing keen interest 🐶

With a big load of leaflets, there will be another session to share the information to other nearby houses.

A Meow-velous Weeding Session

Tuesday 9th September

Written by Laura Boldison

Three GoodGym volunteers returned to Edgeley Community Church for a follow-up session to finish off clearing the outside area.

With trowels and determination in hand, the team made great progress in tackling the last of the weeds and tidying up the space.

Hazel had an unexpected surprise when she spotted a £5 note amongst the weeds — proof that volunteering really can pay off!

The group also got very lucky with the weather, as dark clouds loomed overhead but the rain mostly held off until the work was done.

And of course, the real star of the evening was a friendly ginger cat who came to supervise and keep everyone entertained with its antics.

With the area now looking much neater, the church grounds are once again a more welcoming spot for the whole community. 🐾🌱✨

From Railings to Playthings

Tuesday 2nd September

Written by Laura Boldison

On Tuesday evening, five GoodGymers returned to What If?, the ideas café in Edgeley, to lend a splash of colour to a set of children’s toys.

With paintbrushes in hand, they worked together to refresh the toys in time for a special party taking place on Sunday 21st September.

As if that wasn’t enough, the group even squeezed in time to finish off painting the outside railings in a bright red. This was a job they had started many months ago but had been rained off before completing.

The session was filled with teamwork and creativity, and thanks to the volunteers’ efforts both the toys and the railings are now looking fresh and ready to welcome children and families at the upcoming event.

Plot Twists and Pavements

Tuesday 26th August

Written by Laura Boldison

With our volunteering session at What If? cancelled, Hazel and Laura made the most of the evening by lacing up their trainers for a 4k run around Edgeley.

The route took them past the local reservoirs, where the views made the effort worthwhile.

To keep spirits high, the conversation flowed easily — books, library visits, and reading recommendations became the running theme.

What began as a change of plan turned into a refreshing way to combine fitness, and favourite pastimes.
