The Paint Job, sequel of sequel to the sequel etc.

Wednesday 1st June 2022

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

7 runners got together on a non-group run Wednesday to paint some more fences at the Kiddies cabin. Jess and Gillian went deep into the Bamboo bush to tackle the hard to get part of the fence, while Anita, Jen, Diya, Kanika and new member Emily joined task owner Michelle for the more easy to access parts. The assigned + extra part of the fence was spruced up with new paint in a short time by the chatty crew.

We're Painting in the Rain, Just Painting in the Rain

Tuesday 17th May 2022

We're painting in the rain Just painting in the rain What a glorious feelin' The fence is brown again! A warm evening saw Anita, Anne-Laure, Diya, Kanika, Jen, Rachel, Roberta and Sheila gather at Kiddies Cabin for another session of fence painting. Alice had already set out the paint, brushes and protective paper ready for us by the sections that needed painting. And we were off! We made such good progress that we finished the designated areas, and the team managed to do a whole extra section too. A little bit of rain didn't dampen our spirits, another satisfying evening's work.

A fresh lick of paint

Tuesday 10th May 2022

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

The fence-painting task at Kiddies Cabin continues! Anita, Rachel, Roberta and Sheila all walked to the task, and met Chloe, one of the Team Leaders at the Nursery, who gave us our instructions for the evening. This time, we were painting on the outside perimeter of the fence, starting with the intricate fencing by the entrance. This proved to take longer than we predicted, but we amused ourselves talking about one of our favourite topics - food! As Roberta made the finishing touches with a small brush, Anita , Rachel and Sheila moved on to the first of the large fence panels, and quickly achieved their self-imposed target of finishing the panel before the end of the session. We were pleased with our progress, and Chloe was too. We are already looking forward to the next session! Apologies for the lack of photos - due to a combination of a new phone and technical incompetence on the part of the operator!

Cabin Crew

Wednesday 4th May 2022

This evening's group run took us back to Kiddies Cabin for some more fence painting. Sheila's tee-pee-toeing team did a great job on their community mission yesterday, and Georgeta, Rachel, Jack and I took over where they left off.

We were blessed with good weather despite the threatening clouds, and there was much laughter, chatter and friendly paint splatter as we worked. Much to my surprise, and to task owner Leigh's delight, we finished the section of playground we've been focussing on for the last few weeks.

I also really enjoyed the run to the task with Georgeta, which involved a scenic loop around the Pinkney's Green area. It was a refreshing escape for both of us - Georgeta from her work screen and me from my crazy children. Rachel and Jack were fitting GoodGym into busy evenings, so it suited them to meet us at the task rather than join the run, but kudos to them for juggling everything so that they could still squeeze in some good deeds.

There are still plenty more fence panels to tackle at Kiddies Cabin, so you can expect the Cabin fever to continue for a while yet. Keep your eye on the listings for more sessions.

Teepee-toeing through the Toys

Tuesday 3rd May 2022

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

The epic fence-painting task at Kiddies' Cabin, an NHS-run nursery, continues! Anita, Jen, Juli, Kanika, Sophie and Sheila answered the call, and were met at the venue by Lorna, the deputy manager. Everything was laid out ready for us, so we set to work, putting a second coat on the fence panels we had painted previously. We moved on to painting the play teepee and the storage cabin, and by the end of the session everything looked so much better. A very satisfying task. More fence painting at the group run tomorrow - sign up here

Exercise? I thought you said "Extra rice!"

Paint no stopping GoodGym Windsor and Maidenhead!

This evening we headed to Kiddies Cabin for some fence painting. Kudos to Sheila, Anita and Rachel, who started the task on a community mission this morning and were keen to come back for more. Also a big warm welcome to Julia for her first session with us and welcome back to Fiona!

Our run/walk was 2-3km, depending on whether you fancied a lap of sunny Oaken Grove Park or not, and there were a couple of nice inclines to help us work up a sweat. Thanks to Sheila for walk leading and to Georgeta for back marking the runners.

Our task owner Leigh had been super organised and left out everything we needed, so we were able to get stuck in on arrival. In about 50 minutes we covered 10 fence panels with the sludgey brown paint, as well as Rhi's legs, the odd shoe, a bird house and a smattering of freckles on my forehead. We also learned that Julia and Rachel are much better at counting than I am.

Just when we thought the fun was nearly over, Anita revealed her reason for meeting us at the task rather than joining the walk or run. In an extended celebration of her 50 good deeds with GoodGym, Anita had brought with her a wonderful feast including an utterly scrumptious home-made chicken biriyani, prosecco and chocolate. The biriyani in particular was heavenly. Thank you so much for spoiling us Anita and congratulations again on your 50 good deeds.

We will no doubt be returning for more painting at Kiddies Cabin in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on the listings and hope to see you soon.
