Some of us helped the Pride in Luton team with the set up in the morning and got very wet in the process. We helped to set up the gazebos and hang up the banners. Then we were Pride Hosts during the afternoon and were there to provide help and directions when needed and litter pick.

We supported the Pride in Luton team and ABCD Luton to do litter picking, trimming bushes, sweeping the streets, weeding and unloading luggage from cars in preparation for tomorrow.
The morning brightened up and fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow at the 3rd Pride in Luton. 🌈

It was a GoodGym double today as swiftly after the “Swinging in the Rain” task four GoodGymers headed over to the Hat Factory Arts Centre to help out with some painting. The area known as The Vaults is going to be renovated and utilised for the LGBTQ+ community of Luton. Once complete it will host a series of inclusive events for all from book clubs and games nights to cabaret and movie showings. It was great to see the design proposals for the space and get stuck in and paint alongside other eager volunteers and members of the community. There’s plenty of work to be done in the coming months so I’m sure GoodGym will be back at somepoint!

GoodGym Luton came out to support the set up, hosting and closing of the second Pride in Luton celebration.
From 9am we covered a whole range of tasks from the ordinary litter picking, moving fences, putting up decorations, and moving and setting up tables and chairs. To the more unusual buying over 40 meal deals, pushing a broken down van, and transporting a scarecrow.
After the set up, three members of the GoodGym team donned the carnival costumes and joined the dance parade to start off the Pride festival.
A group of GoodGym volunteers stayed during the day giving out directions, litter picking and supporting with any urgent tasks. Which most notably included moving a chicken and rice food stall from one place to another while they were still cooking and keeping food hot.
Finally, a group stayed till the very end to help tidying up and taking everything down.
A job well done for a memorable and meaningful second Pride in Luton!
