Haddock and Chips

Wednesday 1st October

Written by Louise Tyrell

7 Goodgymmers were very chip-er at todays task of spreading wood chip in the forest area at St Marys pre school

Tony was a magnificent sight standing atop of a pile of wood chip with his fish and chips in hand- it provided much nourishment for the task at hand

An hour in and you wooden believe the difference we made in the area. The weeds and dirt were covered over with a fresh batch of wood chip, making for a mu(l)ch more usable space for the school

The end of the task loomed and we said goodbye to our task owner Michelle and made our way homes

Flying the flags

Wednesday 28th June 2023

Written by Amy L GoodGym (she/her)

Well done to everyone who came out for our session this evening! Lovely to catch up with you all and great to welcome Chris to Maidenhead for the first time.

This evening was our first time (or should that be forest time?) helping St Mary's Pre-school. We walked around a kilometre from Coop to the school where we were met by task owners Michelle (two legged) and Bobby (four legged). They then showed us the way to their forest school site, next to Holyport Football Club (which coincidentally is where we'll be painting tomorrow! Click here to join the fun).

The site had been recently strimmed, but was in need of a tidy, and there was also bunting to be made. Gillian, Jenni, Diya, Kanika, Jack and Chris set to work weeding, moving stones into the campfire area and surrounding it with a circle of logs. Meanwhile Nicola, Michelle and I cut fabric into strips and then tied them to a piece of twine to make pretty bunting flags. We were joined by Jenni and Kanika (in her second 'sewing' good deed of the day!) as they finished their other jobs. Chris also had a paswsome time making friends with Bobby.

By the end everything looked fab, and Michelle explained that although the end of term is approaching, the site will be well used for a Summer School over the holidays.

Then it was time to test our reflexes and get our heart rates up in a knockout of 'grab the cone'. All hail Queen Jenni, who smashed the rest of us!

We logged off with a walk back to Coop and waved everyone off home. Weed did it!

St Mary had a little land little land

Thursday 6th January 2022

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

St Mary had a little land who's raised beds needed a weed.

St Marys Catholic primary school had a very weedy garden that needed the Goodgym touch. There was no lamb, but there were chickens, and a cat on a toilet.

Runners arrived either on two feet or four wheels and we took our Thyme setting to work clearing raised beds and walkways to give a blank canvas for the pupils planning to plant vegetables in spring and for wild flowers where weeds once ran wild.

In the darkness, cold and rain removing herbs, weeds and grass. No one fell in the pond, but we may have dug a bush too far. The hour flew by and with many tasks in mind to return for we left the chickens to roost and headed for home.
